If you've been in the military, you understand the joke. If not, the NCOs do the dirty work in the military, while the officers sip coffee or play golf.
I must say that wasn't my experience as a young officer: during my first year in Germany, I had both Chaparral air defesne platoons, had Staff Duty Officer 2-3 times a week, had several extra duties such as Energy Conservation Officer (thanks Carter!), NBC Warfare Officer, Augmentation Reserve Force Officer, to name 3. Never a dull moment, drank a lot of coffee but couldn't find the time to play golf. lol
Things eased up my last two years, when I was "kicked upstairs" to Battalion HQ. Staff Duty was a couple of times a month, no extra duties, just staff work.
