Looked like chain link to me. Not that I have done that, but I doubt it would be that much of a problem, if you meant sighting. It would only interfere with leading the target because the shooter would have to move rather than swing the barrel. Even with the gate locked, the important aspect was the response by armed Capitol Hill Police. Without that, the shooter had several minutes to work with. Plenty of time.

This is one of those times where I wish the Republicans and Conservative media would take a page from the DNC playbook and use every bit of guile and pulpit pounding to lay this shooting squarely at the feet of every Democrat in D.C. and in every state house in the Country.

I think it goes without saying that he wasn't 'highly qualified' . Heck, most women I know shoot better than that.

Since he was from Illinois where he probably could not get a gun, I think he bought them recently. His shooting was poor, thank God. I really want to know how and where he got the rifle and pistol.

Hmmmm. Just heard that a neighbor said he was shooting his rifle last March in Illinois.

He was living in his white cargo van that last three months. White cargo van-those vehicles are often used in heinous crimes, it seems.

I think I heard he lived right across the Missouri line... You don't have to go too far into Missouri to find guns. I don't really think guns are illegal in rural Illinois. Heck, give me 3 days and 500 bucks and I will find a gun right in Chicago, without any paperwork...

Out this way, I have heard cyclone fence used to refer to snow fence, rather than chain link. Sorry to not be more explicit. If the Capitol Hill Police had not been there as part of his security detail and returned fire...(the response I was referring to, not coming in from a remote location).

Which only emphasizes the need for a weapon that is seconds away from being used (and very few of those seconds) instead of waiting three to four minutes (incredibly short response, imho) for the police to show up. A minute can be a lifetime.

The white cargo van has been the generic tradesman's vehicle in the DC Metro area (at least) since Chief Moose was blaming some white guy for picking off random people around the Beltway. It's harder to steal tools out of than the back of a pickup.

Hard telling... 3rd base / shortstop  was closest target of opportunity. And even that was a poor-ass shot. With a rifle at that distance?? I'd be hard pressed to miss that shot with a snap shot from a pistol.

But, it sounds like he was casing the place... and laying low.. so you might be right in what he was attempting.

Nope... But even here, it goes without saying that most men hunt, and few women do. They'll do to dispatch a varmint if the old man ain't around, and many women I know are good shots. But it's but a few that are equal to men at it... Mostly it's the old man's job to do the killing, whatever killing it is...

Generally, women do it only of a necessity (even slaughtering chickens, as an instance). Men do it because it's in their DNA.

Hence, just from the position of surety and practice, men are seldom less equipped.
