Really?  The robber, who has no intention of actually shooting anyone, holds the gun to the guy's back and says "give me your wallet."  The guy sasses back, the robber gets ticked off, loses it, and pops off a few rounds - unless the gun was a single-action revolver with a heavy trigger, it's very easy for it to get away from you - and then suddenly realizes that he just stepped into the big leagues; he's not a robber - a mere thief - anymore, he's now a murderer.  The adrenaline pumps and he takes off for the hills.  It would take more ice-water in your veins to stop and pick over the still-warm corpse than to just take off in panic.

Pretty easy, and pretty common.

Columbo would probably conclude that you're the robber.... or that he's in your family.... since you seem so willing to help explain how it probably happened....lolol.

That's only in the movies though.   Real life motives usually translate into an agenda.

Doesn't even need to be a robbery. Motiveless murders happen all the time and are the least likely to be solved. I knew a guy who was murdered walking down a back road in the middle of the night. He was a teenager who didn't have any serious enemies. Someone pulled up, shot him in the side of the head and drove away. Police said it was possible the car didn't even stop rolling. Not even a shell casing was found.

I had a girlfriend who lost her grandfather the same way. He was in a canoe about a mile upstream from where I'm sitting now and someone shot him and it was never solved.

The body of my brother in law's missing sister was just found last year when a serial killer on death row confessed to the murder. She was killed in the late 70s or early 80s. The little town where her unidetified remains were found in the 90s buried her. Killed by this guy (Rodney Alcala) who was a former dating game contestant.

It sounds exactly like a botched robbery to me.  In fact, it sounds like nothing else but.

The killer could have had any number of motivations.

I could say, derived from my own experience, that it sounds like a hit and it would have as much merit as your assertion.

Not just shot twice.  Shot twice in the back.  The robber must have been ancient.  He not only forgot to shoot him in the front....he also forgot to take anything. 

It takes some really flexible mental gymnastics to swallow that story so willingly and so readily.   I'm just wondering why that is.

Okay , come on now.  I'm more-or-less of a similar viewpoint you are on this issue (because it is healthier to assume government misdeeds than to assume they have anyone's best interests in mind), but number one - you and I have no power whatsoever to pressure a State Prosecutor to go forward or lay off of an investigation.  Second, the folks you would impugn with 'mission accomplished' and attempting to shut down a discussion because they are in-realiy 'left-leaning', discredits any salient argument you might otherwise make.
