@DiogenesLamp

Have you listened to the tape?

No.   I didn't see it on this morning's news and I try not to watch videos on my computer.

Does the audio tape prove he body slammed anyone?

It may prove he assaulted someone,  but I don't see how it can tell you exactly what happened.

Boy. People are really worked up over a no name candidate in a worthless election in a state that's only value is stashing mobsters in the witness protection program.

This is a fair point. I briefly read the transcript of the audio as I am at work. Without seeing a video it's hard to pass judgement.

I can think of scenarios when smacking down a reporter (or anyone else) is fair play.

Hey, they're the media. They can turn a pimple into Mount Vesuvius with the right camera angle and hyperbole.

Exactly what I suspect they are doing.

As Thomas Jefferson said about the two New England Professors who witnessed a meteorite falling to the earth:

"I would sooner believe that two Yankee Professors would lie than that stones would fall from the sky."

Maybe there is some truth in this claim,   but  I should not be surprised to discover it has been greatly exaggerated for political effect.

The democrats just might finally get the win they're desperate for. For all the effectiveness the GOP congress has shown these past few months I'm sure we won't be able to tell the difference.

Ask, and you shall receive.

Bad technique.    He was supposed to slam him on his back.   It doesn't quite work when you try to slam someone on the front because they can hold their arms out and minimize the impact.

But yes,  more along the lines of what I think "body slam"  means.

Exactly. This is a special election. Congress is about to go on their never ending vacation. It's one vote in the House. Whoever wins it will be less than a year and then there are primaries again.

Tribalism.   The Liberals *ALWAYS*  defend their people,  regardless of what they have done.

In terms of winning techniques,  this works better than trashing your own people and letting the other side win.

Exactly.   I think we need a better idea of the violence involved.   Some can be forgiven,  the question is did the man go too far?

What works even better is not giving a reason for the other side to win.

Actually,   I can think of worse things to happen in Washington than having congressmen assault media or their fellow congress critters.

Actually, you clearly don't care about the facts as currently known -- such as witnesses who corroborate the reporter's story.  The reporter is "the enemy" to you, and so it's OK for him to be assaulted.

Me, too.  Things like "people excusing violent criminal behavior as acceptable".

There is a crowd of usual suspects whose posts -- and enthusiasm for posting -- often make this forum look like a pretty ugly place.  This thread is a great example.

Well,  one thing you said is correct.   The Left wing Reporter of a Foreign Socialist nation  is indeed an "enemy",   and so therefore I will not automatically believe whatever he or his allies say about an event with actual political consequences.

I find it perfectly reasonable that we should be suspicious of our political enemies while giving our own allies the benefit of the doubt.

I think it odd that some immediately take up the accusations of their political enemies without trying to see things in the best light for their allies.

I think this tendency to destroy our own is a major part of why Liberals keep advancing and we keep losing ground.

I don't yet know.
If there was video, it'd be edited like the Rodney King incident, with everything up to where the 'victim' gets it left out. The full video of that situation showed a different story, but all that was shown was when the police got the upper hand. While that sure seemed excessive, events prior to that part balanced the story.

False dichotomy.

Just because "perfect" is unachievable doesn't mean all standards are off.

I believe Christians have a philosophy that they should strive for a standard of behavior even though they know it's unachievable.  I think it's exactly the same as my point here.

It is pragmatic,   and it works better than the alternative of falling down to your knees,  confessing everything,   and begging for mercy at the hands of your enemies.

@DiogenesLamp

Sometimes the accusations are correct.  The witnesses on this one make me think he did it.

Honestly I don't want a politician in office who goes around assaulting people.   Especially one stupid enough to do it to a reporter.

While I agree it seems Liberals have blanket absolution for their sins, Conservatives are defined by principles, and somewhat self-policing. If we abandon that, or adopt double standards, the differences begin to go away.
