Rubio on White House drama: "People got what they voted for"

By/ Emily Tillett/ CBS News/ May 21, 2017, 12:21 PM

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, said Sunday that "people got what they voted for" with the Trump presidency.

"I don't understand why people are that shocked," Rubio said on CBS News' "Face the Nation," following a tumultuous period for the Trump White House. "This president ran a very unconventional campaign. I was there for a big part of it at the beginning alongside being one of his competitors. And that's what the American people voted for. And in essence, you know, this White House is not much different from the campaign."

Rubio's comments come after two weeks of White House blunders for the Trump administration, leaving many in Congress questioning the future of the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Rubio called much of the drama coming out of the White House "unique" and "different than anything we've confronted."

"We'll have to deal with these issues. These issues come up, these questions every single day. And I do think the White House would benefit from some systems in place that perhaps avoid some of the unnecessary friction points that come up on a daily basis. But this is also the political environment we now live in, too," Rubio said.

Marco who humiliated himself during the debates is taking pot shots?  Let me tell you something Marco ... I was ticked when you jumped back into the race at the last minute after you stated you were leaving politics.  We had a perfectly good conservative running to take your spot ... but obviously "they" nudged him out and he decided not to run against you as you were the incumbent. Marco, you're a whinny little whimp who sold your soul to the Gang of Eight.  As far as I'm concerned you qualify for Hillary's bag of deplorables.
I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

And again we have someone who responds, not by making an argument for Trump, but by attacking the messenger.  **nononono*

Yes, Senator Rubio, we did get what we voted for. I don't know if Trump voters thought Trump's propensity for drama, chaos and flip-flopping would disappear after he became president (after all, he did tell us he could be presidential, although many of us would like to have seen it before he became the nominee), or if they also thrive on that kind of drama. His instability and unpredictability was so apparent to many on the right that he might as well have been bright orange. Oh, wait...

Didn't little Marco say he was retiring from politics? Why am I having to hear from him?

Life's tough. We have to hear from a lot of people with whom we take issue. But here's an idea: turn off your TV. Another idea: don't click on threads with Rubio in the title. Problem solved.

The Florida Republicans wanted him back. Heck, judging by the fact that he won re-election, the Florida people wanted him back, and his margin of victory was six percentage points wider than Trump's in the state.

He really didn't say anything different from what a lot of Trump supporters here have admitted, even Ted Cruz said something similar but in a nicer way. The only issue I have is that many, if not most, who pulled the lever for Trump were voting more anti-Hillary than pro-Trump.

I find it very disturbing that both Sen. Cruz and Rubio couldn't keep their yaps shut while Trump is out of the country doing the country's business.  I expect it from the opposition party but your own party should be supporting you right now.  Shows a lack of class.

I gave that little shit money to get him in the Senate.  I've got a burr under my saddle about it.  I did NOT give him money to suck up to McCain.

As a Floridian I did NOT want Marco, I voted against Murphy.  As I have stated previously, there were a couple of conservatives who were going to give up their house seats to run against the DEMS and when little Marco decided he didn't want to retire, they stepped aside!  Little Marco has the RINO machine behind him.  :smokin:

I understand. I have friends who voted for him out of desperation to avoid a Hillary Clinton presidency. They were discomforted by the options. It's the ones who supported him from the beginning I will always be confused by. They are always willing to overlook or make excuses for Trump's shortcomings and shifting positions but insist that any other politician with an R behind their name walk the straight and narrow. They've even taken up Trump's venomous manner of speaking -- name-calling, put-downs, etc. I got scared spitless by fellow Americans when Obama got re-elected. I became even more so when I discovered that the right had their own segment of Americans who would enthusiastically elect such an unfit individual to lead our country.

Yeah.... I never did really trust Rubio.   Don't know why, exactly.  Gut feeling I guess.  Something was just 'off' about him.

Everybody in my circle of friends and family voted against Hillary by voting for Trump.  I was the one holdout.  Now, it's a 'wait and see' attitude and hope for the best.

Cruz merely stated that some of Trump's damage is self-inflicted.  Marco is taking a pot shot not only at the President, but those who vote for him.  Marco deserves the middle finger salute.

Not sure that it's necessary, but thought I'd say that I gave money to Rubio for his FIRST Senate run as he was supposedly TEAParty.  All I'd give him now is a bird.

That's exactly my experience as well. The "wait and see and hope for the best" is starting to wear me down. I hoped he'd realize the gravity of his position and rise to the occasion. So far, I'm not seeing what I'd hoped for. Keep praying.

Oh, he got down on Trumps level. Somehow it's okay when Trump does it though.

Little Marco is merely stating the obvious.  Anyone who tries to put a positive spin the past four months looks as silly as Trump's paid staff.  Marco probably wants to keep some distance, so he can maintain some credibility if Trump continues his downward spiral.
