North Korea 'carries out new missile test'

North Korea has fired what appears to be a ballistic missile, reports from South Korea say.

The missile was fired from Kusong region, north-west of the capital, Pyongyang, Yonhap news agency reported.

North Korea has carried out a series of missile tests this year, increasing tensions with the US.

Pyongyang has accelerated its nuclear and missile tests in recent years, despite international condemnation and UN sanctions.

Two missile tests last month both failed, with the rockets exploding just minutes into flight.

Kim and his father before him constantly lobbed missiles to get the attention of the rest of the world.

For the mot part they either fail or fall harmlessly into the sea.  There is no doubt he could hit a nearby population center.

It's a good way to keep his rubes in line.  Keeping them on a constant imminent war footing keeps him in power.  It's a trick as old as civilization.  Most countries in S. America have done it in recent years, like Argentina.  Every time their economy hits the skids they're talking about invading the Falklands again.
