Possible replacements for terminated FBI Director

IMO Gowdy is worthless.

Possible replacements for terminated FBI Director

President Trump is expected to nominate a replacement for fired FBI Director James Comey "in the coming days," a senior White House official told Fox News late Tuesday.....

-- RAY KELLY: The longest-serving police commissioner in New York City, Kelly oversaw the force in the years following the Sept. 11 attacks when terror threats were routine. His tough-on-crime stance, including support for provocative tactics like stop-and-frisk, could make him a natural ally of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and a go-to-guy for a fellow New Yorker like Trump..........

-- CHRIS CHRISTIE: Though his relationship with Trump has been topsy-turvy, the governor of New Jersey has known the president for years and could bring law enforcement bona fides to the job. Christie is a former Republican-appointed United States attorney in New Jersey, and he cited that background time and again during his 2016 presidential campaign.....

-- DAVID CLARKE: A wild-card, but the outspoken and polarizing Milwaukee County, Wis., sheriff has been a fierce supporter of Trump and even landed a speaking spot at last summer's Republican National Convention. A conservative firebrand known for his cowboy hat, Clarke has called himself "one of those bare-knuckles fighters" and has been critical of what he called the "hateful ideology" of the Black Lives Matters movement............

-- TREY GOWDY: The South Carolina Republican led the House committee investigation of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's actions surrounding the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi, Libya. ......

Trump should play the media a bit and tell them he's going to check with his "close friend" Vladi Putin to see who he recommends. :silly:

For God's sake - pick a good cop. Not a politician. Not military. Not another bloody lawyer. An actual, honest to god COP to run the FBI.

I'm sure there are a lot of people who are glad Rudy was mayor on one day.

One really can't do much about the unadulterated hate of some people.

My choice would be either Clarke or Christie.  I think Christie would be excellent, but he brought down Kushner's daddy and sent him to prison.

What does Hoover have to do with any of this??  As for an independent investigation, I believe that would be determined by the AG ... Sessions recused himself in all of this, so it would be up to Rosenstein.  Trump appointing Rosenstein was a huge mistake; he served under Clinton and Bammy and also Holder.  I don't think Trump has colluded with Putin, but Clinton and Bammy certainly have and I don't think Rosenstein is going to allow an independent investigation that would bring them down.

I think Gowdy is compromised, explaining why his investigations in Congress never lead to anything and he so considered “retiring” rather than running again. His investigations into Benghazi never amounted to anything. he is very good with sound bites, but we need someone who gets results.

And I know that Christie is compromised. No, just no.

Ray Kelly would be great, but he’s, what, 75? And it is a long office term. I give him props for making NYC a safe big city, but this man is hostile to the second amendment. I don't want him running law enforcement in this country as if the USA were NYC.

Sherrif Clarke? He sounds good on paper but DC is not Milawukee and he will be swamped by the swamp. I don't want someone learning on the job.

I personally would recommend the man who successfully prosecuted the Blind Sheik and his cohorts at the first World trade center bombing --- Andy McCarthy. I think it was Frank Gaffney who suggested him on drive time radio this morning.

Agreed. If your goal is to get people to trust the integrity of the FBI again, you have to go totally apolitical.
