Why Sanders would have defeated Trump in 2016
By Brent Budowsky, opinion contributor - 05/05/17 03:20 PM EDT

On Wednesday, I wrote about what Hillary Clinton said this week and what she did not say, discussing the reasons she lost the 2016 presidential election. Today, let's consider a far more interesting and important question than why Clinton lost, which is why Bernie Sanders would have won.

It is a fact that for well over a year, match-up polls showed that Sanders would have defeated Trump by substantial margins. Favorability polls have similarly and consistently showed Sanders to have substantially higher approval and favorable ratings than Trump.

Unlikely.  It's easy to say you'd vote for the grumpy old charlatan when there's no chance you'd actually have the option to do so.

Sorry Buttkowski....

I don't think the US will ever elect a socialist. At least not in my lifetime.

Sanders lost in a rigged primary system; okay, he still probably would have lost but....

I read the article, what it doesn't mention is that blue collar types, union types, in my opinion, would have voted for Bernie more. They are big in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan.  So, I can definitely see it as having been tighter. They voted for jobs, simply, to open up the coal mines, etc.

Funny you should mention Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan---those are the states Hilarious Rodent Clinton
failed to work until practically the last minute, and it's said those were the states that cost her the Electoral
College.

They are big in Pennsylvania,

Bullshit. Except for Philthy and Pitt PA has the "T" full of these workers who HATE Bernie. He only plays to Commie children in school. That is why Hitlary destroyed him here.

This article is pure fantasy written by some moron trying to get clicks. We had an actual election and everything played out exactly how most rational people saw it.

Then how did Obama (twice), Kerry, Gore and Clinton (twice) all win PA? Kerry and certainly Obama were hardly moderates.

The fact is, there's not much left outside Philly and Pitt. People have been fleeing the rural areas of PA for decades, and those that remain are desperate for SOME form of help.

Huh?

Then why are the areas of the state affected by the Marcellus Shale formation doing as well as they are?

And central PA seems to be doing just fine. I was down there a couple of weeks back.

By contrast, how are things in central New York?

They ran against Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush, Dole, and Bush.

Maybe people in PA just don't like da Bushes?

All these phony, sore assed, surrender monkey democrats are the same.

You know them... They're all that same little, fat momma's boy from your neighborhood who when you'd best him at anything, his defense was always; "Well, I wasn't really trying. But my big brother could have beat you!"

Yeah.

Whatever, puss.
