Republicans eat another ‘crap sandwich’

Congratulations, House Republicans. You just passed the second-worst socialized medicine bill in American history.

And, if it passes the U.S. Senate, you will own the disaster formerly known as Obamacare — just in time for the 2018 elections.

It will be called “Trumpcare” or “Ryancare” or GOPcare.” And it will still be government-run health care brought to you by the experts at the U.S. Postal Service and Veterans Affairs Department.

To be sure, there are some great aspects of this bill. It makes Obamacare less terrible. It includes Medicare reforms that will save innocent taxpayers and our grandchildren many billions of dollars over future years.

That one part of GOPcare is the first decent thing Congress will have accomplished in the past decade (other than confirming Justice Neil M. Gorsuch).

But will it be worth it?

After all, Republicans have just finally conceded the entire argument against socialized medicine in America. They have officially retreated from the belief that liberty, self-governance and free markets are ultimately the best way to provide the most people with the best health care.

By supporting government-run health care — even if it is a little less government-run than Obamacare — Republicans have, in fact, endorsed government-rationed health care. Remember those evil death panels we used to all be opposed to?

Sigh.... another entitlement.... another betrayal.... another day in the (still) Obamanation.

ObamaCare Lite is still government-control over our healthcare.  A refundable tax credit for folks to pay for their health insurance is just more big-government "solutions" .... when these same people know full well that most Americans were voting for government the hell OUT of it.

I don't understand why they just don't manage it through a "no new entrants" clause which maintains existing coverage using that wonderful (slush) fund they are setting up, and establish clear attrition conditions, such as insurance being available through you or your spouses employer, or a failure to renew coverage.

Everyone else: buy insurance now while you don't have preexisting conditions. If you don't, and you develop a condition, do not expect to get "insurance" to cover it.

Couple that with the variety of other solutions I've posted and the GOP can manage the optics of this situation quite well.

I don't think they want to "manage the optics".   I think they are showing us what they really are....  big-government proponents, despite their bleatings to the contrary.

1. This is not a repeal
2. This is not a conservative piece of legislation and does not...
   a) Get government out of the healthcare business
   b) Do anything to eliminate another government entitlement boondoggle
3. This does not do anything to actually reduce the costs of medical care
4. This does not return the insurance industry to providing actual insurance against the unforeseen
5. This is the path to single payer

The new HC plan is a disaster. Insurance companies( I work for them)  are going to cut pre existing and place those people in high risk pools. If you have PE such as diabetes wait until you get your monthly premium of $1500+ per person when you are  placed in the high risk pool

Older peoples premiums are going to sky rocket. HC is causing our business to be uncompetitive and as @bolobaby  said the plan does nothing to cut medical cost.

The only people who say HC is not a right are healthy people and people on the fringe or people with the very best gov't health care. I have never met a person who has come down with a dreaded disease or their close family member, say their 5 year old daughter say HC is not a right.

Matter of fact ask any nurse. People with no health insurance are the very most demanding in the hospital and want the most expensive treatment to be available for them.

If you have  a PE you could buy it up to now sign up date every Nov-Dec for a Jan 1st effective date. no questions asked. If you miss that deadline you are screwed as you should be.

I hear you, mirraflake.    The AHCA (and its counterpart in the Senate) represent the last, best chance we have to preserve a private health care insurance system.    If it can't get done, maybe President Trump's right - Australia's got a better health care system than we do (it's certainly less expensive and more humane).

What @bolobaby  said is right. No reason for someone  not to have health insurance. Most people who signed up for ACA had either all their premiums paid or the most of it  via subsidies. so there was no excuse"I cannot afford it"

A driving factor of our HC problems is only the sick buy buy it which drive sup the cost. Same as if automobile insurance 90% of the people had claims each years.

1. The current law says you must buy insurance. Believe me, people with preexisting conditions who needed insurance should have already bought it to be in compliance with the law.

2. For these people, the cost of their insurance is likely to be highly subsidized, or it wouldn't have been a problem to have insurance in the first place. They could have already afforded it. So not getting your nearly free health insurance makes you not only a lawbreaker, but exceptionally irresponsible and stupid.

3. Both points above are MOOT anyway. Insurance is a hedge against the unforeseen, NOT TO PAY FOR THE COST OF PREEXISTING CONDITIONS. This is apparently a very difficult concept for some folks, including you. Rather than pass legislation that helps manage the costs of health CARE (*not* insurance), you'd rather just say "eff it" and make insurance available to people who are patently ineligible for it. That makes you something of a special flower, not really fitting in with conservatives who don't like to change the definition of things like gender, marriage, and (yep) insurance just to fit their own personal idea of fairness.

An old argument that was never the case.

Under the ACA that was not possible. You had an open enrollment window each year to sign up and if you missed it you were  sool if you came down with a sickness or accident. Actually you were not sool. Most people who come down with a dreaded disease just declare bankruptcy and pass it onto schlupps like me who has health insurance. gte higher premiums to make up for the deadbeats.

That they would suggest we not panic because the Senate will offer their version completely ignores the fact that the Senate will offer a much more liberal/Left Collectivist/Statist solution to making ObamaCare more 'manageable' by the Statists.  The bill as it stands is only going to be yanked hard Left into the Communism it needs to breathe and flourish.

The way to fix the entire problem is to wipe the entire slate clean and end all government involvement in healthcare in total.  Sunset Medicare and medicaid.  Tell everyone they are responsible for paying for themselves and their own care - and let the private market take it from there. 

But that will never happen, because Communism/Statism/Stalinism is what this people really want.

All in the name of compassion, using someone else's money while imputing their guilt trips.
