By S.A. Miller and Stephen Dinan - The Washington Times - Tuesday, May 2, 2017

The White House insisted Tuesday that the $1 trillion spending bill includes money for 40 miles of border fencing, as President Trump sought to shore up Republican voters by saying the deal also lays the groundwork for rebuilding the military.

The president said there is “enough money to make a down payment on the border wall,” and said a $15 billion boost in defense spending — without having a dollar-for-dollar match in domestic spending — has set a new standard that will benefit Republicans and the Pentagon.

“This is what winning looks like,” Mr. Trump said.

He didn't get Border Wall Funds. The CR only continued funding for the 2011 Secure Fence Act. Nothing new for a border wall was added. At that, the CR blocks new fundnig for the border wall.

Not only is this bad spin, it is taknig credit for something he had nothing to do with.

That's the key here; the bill eliminated future funding for the wall.  The wall is dead. Unless private entities put up the monies; it's not going to happen and even at that, I believe that the property that the wall would sit on is federal property; so any notion of the wall being built is dead as I'm sure the feds aren't going to allow the construction.

How to lose credibility while posting:
1. Trump is never wrong.

3. Be falsely ingratiating, completely but politely dismissive without talking to the points, and bring up Hillary whenever the conversation is really about conservatism.

(morons)

Where are all the cries of protest from his supporters?? Seems to me they should be protesting and demanding what he promised. Oh that's right ... he still has 3+ years to go and he'll spew the same rhetoric when he's up for re-election and his morons will vote form him again.

I never put much stock in an actual wall in the sense that some think about it.

To me, it was more symbolic ... a change in attitude.  And Trump has done that.  He has spoken against sanctuary cities and threatened to withhold federal funding to states and cities that support them.  He also tried hard to get a travel ban.  Both of those attempts have been thwarted by liberal judges.

But a lot fewer people are crossing the border now because of the shift in attitude by this administration.  We can accomplish most of what the wall would accomplish in other ways and we've made a start at that.

I think the travel ban will be enacted eventually.  Mexicans are mainly a danger to the economy, which is not good, but the people it is crucial to keep out are muslims.

Let's see some hard numbers on them claims, and evidence of causality. Otherwise, that's just more Trump-fartin'.

To far too many people, it is a game. I posted an article a few weeks ago about how politics has become clan warfare and people care too much about scoring 'gotcha' points against the other team than they do about their core values. (my team versus your team, not about what you are fighting for).

Worse, IMHO, this is about a change in attitudes. Especially on the right, we are seeing a major change in Conservativism from limited government and maximizing individual liberty, to a populist vision of stronger centralized government that solves our needs and 'is here to help'. Conservatives are starting to put their faith and hopes in a man versus in their values. In many ways, we are falling off the cliff of mirroring the European version of the Right which is very different from Conservativism.

Because of that, it is up to the Right to speak the loudest when we see wrongs going on, not just 'go along' because it is our team and they are sticking it to the left. This isn't a game to see who can get the best soundbytes. If we don't stand up and speak for values,  the Right as we know it will cease to exist and just be a different shade of liberals.

Okay.  This is from the Washington Times ... at least as reliable a source as the New York Times.

"By Stephen Dinan - The Washington Times - Wednesday, March 8, 2017
Illegal immigration across the southwest border plummeted in the weeks after President Trump took office, Homeland Security Secretary John F. Kelly announced Wednesday, calling the drop an early sign that Mr. Trump’s get-tough policies are working.

In addition to a drop in the number of illegal immigrants nabbed while attempting to cross, Mr. Kelly said, they have seen a dramatic spike in the rates charged by smugglers paid to sneak people into the U.S.

Routes that cost $3,500 in November now cost $8,000, he said — another signal that smuggling cartels’ business is suffering.

Mr. Kelly called the drop in apprehensions unprecedented. The number of people caught at the border is considered a good indication of the overall flow, so a drop in apprehensions is believed to signal a drop in total number of illegal crossings.

“This trend is encouraging because it means many fewer people are putting themselves and their families at risk of exploitation, assault and injury by human traffickers and the physical dangers of the treacherous journey north,” Mr. Kelly said.

All told, 23,589 people were caught trying to enter without permission at the border in February. That was the lowest number for the month in years and a 40 percent drop from the 42,504 caught in January.

In fact, it’s the lowest number for any month dating back at least to 2012, when monthly statistics were first released.

The Obama administration and its allies among immigrant rights groups had long argued that the surge of illegal immigration in recent years, chiefly from Central America, was a result of people fleeing horrific conditions.

Those groups argued that there was little the U.S. could or should do to stem the flow.
But Border Patrol officials, in internal documents, had said the surge was a result of lax enforcement within the U.S. They had predicted that a policy imposing tougher consequences for illegal immigration could stem the flow.

Mr. Kelly said Wednesday that appears to be the case.
“The early results show that enforcement matters, deterrence matters, and that comprehensive immigration enforcement can make an impact,” he said.

The drop was severe across all categories.
The number of unaccompanied illegal immigrant children caught by the Border Patrol fell below 2,000, while the number of people traveling as families was just 3,124. In January, that number had been 9,300, and in December, it had been more than 16,000.

Even particularly tricky countries such as Haiti saw improvement. In January, more than 1,600 Haitians showed up at ports of entry demanding to be admitted. In February, that number dropped to 218.

Mr. Kelly said the massive changes were the result of Mr. Trump’s policies, which have given agents at the border and in the interior more leeway to arrest and deport illegal immigrants.
Mr. Trump has also promised to hire 5,000 more border agents and to build a wall across the southwest border, though neither of those plans has taken shape.
Instead, would-be immigrants appear to be responding to Mr. Trump’s get-tough rhetoric.

Mr. Kelly said his department will be monitoring to see what happens in March, April and May, when the number of apprehensions — and therefore crossers — usually jumps.
President Obama oversaw a major drop in the number of Mexicans coming across the border during his time in office — a result of a sour U.S. economy, an improving Mexican economy and a willingness to impose penalties on those nabbed.
But U.S. policy was more relaxed toward illegal immigrants from Central America.
They were generally arrested, given court dates and released into the interior of the U.S., where they often absconded, disappearing into the shadows with the estimated 11 million other illegal immigrants."

Nice, but even your own source seems to feel these numbers may be anecdotal only because, as Mr. Kelly says, we have to wait "to see what happens in March, April and May."  So now that it's May, what happened in March and April?

Anecdote isn't proof.  And as the article shows, even Obama was able to bring illegal immigration down.  So you have nothing at this point other than anecdote.

But, there is one thing we do have:  Trump's lies about the wall and what he was going to do.  We know beyond peradventure that Trump lied about wanting the wall now.  Funny how that disturbs his sheep not the least.

PREACH IT!

That is the unabashed TRUTH happening right under our noses, and EXACTLY as we warned would happen under Trump.

And still they see not, hear not and speak not.

The euro-right is all about ethnocentric socialism. They are not our allies despite their fight against islam. If you look close enough, you'll find that they tend to blame the Jews for the muslim invasion.

Its the same old song and dance "Globalists (Jews) control the world and make us attack muslims causing muslims to rush into Europe".

In real life I see no evidence for what you postulate.

I know that Trump's personal traits will probably bring him down eventually, but this mindset you demonstrate makes everything about Trump.

Everything is not about Trump.  Trump has succeeded in some things and failed in others.  But letting Trump hatred color your views on everything that's going on in society is not smart.

I see a rise in conservatism.  I see people more upset about big government and more supportive of states rights.  I see people more upset about the influx of muslims and about the proliferation of abortion.

Maybe it depends on where you look.  You look at the negative because it gives you something to blame Trump for.

Trump should not be the center of our lives.  He's done some good things, better than I hoped.  He's failed at others.

I don't blame Trump for it, but I see him as a symptom of it and an amplification of it. The blame is with the people, he is just making the attitude acceptable because they believe he is on their side. And I do see it every single day almost. (not just on the internet but friends and family who are putting all their faith in him and gladly want a big government to make things happen). I've even heard, more than I can count, people say things along the lines of 'Obama disregarded the Constitution and acted like a dictator so the only way to counter that is to act like that to fix it....'  (general attitude, not word for word).

People are accepting the same actions and attitudes they have condemned in the past. Why is that?
