Surfer Found Alive After 32 Hours at Sea Off Scotland’s Coast

by Nick Bailey

LONDON — A surfer survived 32 hours in the water after being swept out to sea.

Matthew Bryce was conscious but suffering from hypothermia when found by rescuers 13 miles offshore. He was recovering Tuesday at a hospital in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The 22-year-old set off to go surfing on Sunday morning from Machrihanish beach on Scotland's west coast but was reported missing when he failed to return that afternoon.

Authorities admitted that they were "gravely concerned" and that "hope was fading" of finding Bryce alive after so long in the water.

I'm surprised hypothermia didn't get him. Lucky to be alive.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
