The vestibular apparatus & maintenance of balance

The basis for motion sickness lies deep within the ear in the vestibular apparatus. The vestibular system is a complex neural system that provides balance and posture related information to the brain.

The system has tiny organs, tubes, fluids and a complex system of nerve channels to the brain. This system helps the brain know the position of the body, its motion relative to the environment and give out signals that help in maintaining a posture without falling. 1-4

Its when the boat goes up n down.   When I started scuba I got very very sick.   Once you were in the water and down a ways it went away very quickly.

The worst is when you were just below the surface and subject to the swells but without ANY visual reference.  Yes you can puke thru the regulator.

Went on a cruise out of Cape Canaveral on our honeymoon and the weather was horrendous. Huge waves and boat rocking all the way to Bahamas.

I was hating life. Took me 2 days to recover. The couple who were assigned to our dinner table only had dinner with us the last night as both were sick and stayed in their room the entire time.

I actually lost weight on a cruise.

How about the people who get motion sickness in I-Max movies when they're sitting completely still?

I love drinking beer as the folks around me on the ship (sometimes including the wife) are getting queasy, and then letting out a huge obnoxious belch.... :whistle:
