Quote
South Korea’s government on Thursday sought to correct President Trump, publicly declaring it was never part of China.

“It’s a clear fact acknowledged by the international community that, for thousands of years of history, Korea has never been part of China,” foreign ministry spokesman Cho June Hyuck said Thursday in Seoul, according to Bloomberg News.....

Don't quickly knock Trump for this one. This is one of those disputed things in history. Korea says never, but there are many references to Korea once being a colony or tributary state of the Quing Destiny Empire. It depends on how you look at it. The modern nation of Korea never has. However, if you go back to the 1600s, part of Korea was a colony, albeit a warring one.

When it comes to slant eye history I plead the 5th. It was always my motto to just dock the chink a days pay and be done with it.

They have sent tribute to the Chinese at some points in history to keep from being invaded and were under Chinese occupation sometimes but they were never a part of China.

Being a tributary state doesn't mean they were part of China, it means the opposite actually. China didn't have to invade and conquer itself.

Korea, even long before they were Korea was a separate nation, at some point they were 3 or more nations on the peninsula. They might have sent tribute to China (or Manchuria) but that is very different than being a part of it. They had their own kings.

They are Korea as far as the South Koreans are concerned.

They didn't even stop being Korea when occupied and "annexed" by the Japanese who forced them to adopt Japanese names and burned down ancient temples and such is a fit of cultural cleansing.

EDIT: Not to leave out the rape and murder of their last Empress which I don't think they will ever forgive.

My dentist is Korean here as a resident alien. She said that many Koreans don't even like the terms North or South Korea. She says it was always Korea or nothing in their home.
