I think I want to take up smuggling cigarettes.

In my final years of smoking I rolled my own and could roll up a carton in under an hour. At say $10 per pack I could afford to hire some help and roll up 2 or 3 cartons per hour.

   I switched to a Pipe (tobacco) when they hit $3.00/pk in Texas, added Vapor a couple of years ago to satisfy my hand/mouth fetish, now I do all of them, plus it's 4/20 today.

• Chinese, who funnel the profits into crime organizations

Yes, and it takes a network to succeed.  You need multiple vehicles and drop-off spots to change cargo, though you'd be amazed at how much profit there is in a single van.

NYC has an incredible network of traffic cameras that track license-plate numbers.  Then you need the distribution network, the convenience-store owners who will move the goods.

And recognize that the Arabs and Chinese won't like you cutting into their action.  When hundreds of millions of dollars are at stake, they can get a little touchy.
