Tampa Air Force sergeant that died overseas returning home Tuesday

It has been more than a week since Staff Sergeant Curtis J. Gardner of Tampa died overseas.

    Gardner found dead at his residence at Incirlik Air Base in Turkey
    His body will arrive at TIA Tuesday, his funeral is Wednesday in Tampa

The 29-year-old Air Force staff sergeant was serving at Incirlik Air Base in Turkey when he was found dead April 10.

No cause of death has been determined as of yet. Gardner's body will arrive back in Tampa today.

Gardner had been serving with the 39th Security Forces Squadron for 15 months.

Family and friends are mourning the loss by posting condolences on social media. They are talking about Gardner's ability to stay positive in difficult times and about how he used singing as a way of cheering people up.

The 39th Air Base Wing released a statement, saying in part: "Tragedies like this are felt across the entire wing. The chaplain corps and mental health are available to help Airmen who may be grieving."

Gardner's body will arrive at Tampa International Airport later on Tuesday. Services are scheduled for Wednesday at Garden of Memories in Tampa.
