Theresa May announces plan to call general election on 8 June
PM says new poll is in the national interest
Election is only way to guarantee certainty and stability in the wake of Brexit, May says
May says she came "reluctantly" to the conclusion that a vote was necessary
Downing Street has always denied a vote would be held before the next scheduled election in 2020

Smart. Tories are 20 points clear of Labour and still increasing their lead, thanks to Corbyn being a moron. Also reasonable - we bitched like hell at Brown not holding an election when he took over from Blair. May should have her own mandate to govern, not ride on Cameron's.

I wish Larry the cat could run the country. I love that handsome guy. He got rid of all the rats at Number Ten!

I think she'll be reelected with a comfortable margin. Expect the SNP to lose a few seats as well - Labour has been working hard to regain their Scottish seats.

Course, I've not been home since New Year, so my feel for "on the ground" stuff might be off.

Are you visiting us in the states? It would be interesting, you could write a reverse Bill Bryson type book.

Unfortunately, no. I'm working.  :tongue2:

Not a bad wordsmith, but I'm nowhere near Bill Bryson's skill. He's an amazing writer.

EC is being humble, I enjoy reading what he writes a lot more than Bill Bryson.

Looks like from what I've read she's trying to get an unbreakable margin in Parliament for the Brexit proceedings.

Smart move on her part.
