Spicer: Even Hitler didn't use chemical weapons

White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Wednesday erred in claiming that Adolf Hitler did not use chemical weapons during World War II.

“You had someone as despicable as Hitler, who didn’t even sink to using chemical weapons,” Spicer said during Wednesday’s press briefing.

Hitler is known to have used cyanide gas in mass murders of Jews.

Spicer is an idiot..does he even stop and think before he says things...I would fire him over this but that's just me.

Yes, Hitler and co. gassed the Jews, so Spicer is ridiculously wrong there. 

But he's not entirely wrong on his assertion: Germany didn't make military use of chemical weapons -- primarily because the Allies promised to retaliate in kind and overwhelmingly if they were to do so.

Well unless you count using chemicals to exterminate helpless captives.

The fact that Hitler didn't use chemicals or biological weapons on the battlefield didn't mean they were off the table. In fact there were tests with things like Malaria carrying mosquitoes.

As a general rule, I would say all PR people should avoid talking about Hitler at all times.  Nothing good ever happens to a political hack when Hitler's name comes up in conversation.

Spicer's comment is monumentally stupid.

Tabun was made on an industrial scale by Germany during World War II, based on a process developed by Gerhard Schrader. In the chemical agent factory in Dyhernfurth an der Oder, codenamed "Hochwerk", at least 12,000 metric tons of this agent were manufactured between 1942 and 1945.

They did.  Both sides produced a lot of chemical weapons during WWII.  The Allies mainly deployed them as deterrents, to be used in retaliation.  The Germans didn't use them militarily for that reason. 

I believe the Japanese were the only ones who used them on a militarily significant scale (limited to Chinese and other Asian targets -- not used on the Allies).  The Germans may have used them in isolated instances on the Eastern Front.

D-Day may have been saved because the Germans couldn't make a gas mask that would fit a horse.

As an interesting side note, Chris Matthews said almost the exact same thing a few years ago and was called out for it.
