James Webb Telescope is quite possibly the most ingenious scientific instrument that has ever been made by men. According to the scientists working on it, the telescope will help in unraveling many celestial mysteries. The most important questions that the telescope will seek an answer to are as follows: Was the first ever galaxy to be formed of the Big Bang? Can the TRAPPIST 1 planets support the existence of alien life?

The telescope is designed to catch the faintest of the signals coming from outer space. This enables it to search and explore the possibility of existence of habitable planets in distant star systems. James Webb Space Telescope is the first of its kind, which is designed with mobile parts. It will be launched into space in 2018, and the scientists from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center are busy doing the final stage testing.

If the James Webb Telescope works out, our understanding of this galaxy alone is going to change forever..

It will be wonderful

I just keep thinking of James Webb the musican not the astronomer.

I can care less about the beginning of the Universe, I just want the JWST find a new planet for us to live on.

But that Lauren Grush is nice to look at while she talks about it.

As far as the scope is concerned, Deployment worries me.

I always admired Carolyn Porco as an astronomer. :)

The starshade is another risky deployment but could be of great value.

@kevindavis

Maybe YOUR understanding of the galaxy,but not mine,which is close to absolute zero.  I still think it's magic.

Here's hoping the thing has 20/20 vision, unlike Hubble did.

We will be able to find out whether there is a lot of oxygen-nitrogen in the TRAPPIST atmospheres with this thing

So the two best telescopes in space will be Webb and Hubble?

Will no one rid us of this never-ending Clinton legacy?

Please make it stop.   :shrug:

On the up side,maybe we can convince Baby Bubbette! to ride a rocket to visit her dad in space?

What does "Was the first ever galaxy to be formed of the Big Bang?" mean?

The telescope that ate astronomy had better work out.  Cheaper, faster, better my butt.

The cheaper faster better crap came from the Clinton administration. I blame the Columbia disaster on Clinton when he gutted NASA (Newt could have supported NASA more when he was speaker of the House as well).

More Powerful

The James Webb Space Telescope has seven times the collecting area than the Hubble Telescope. Moreover, it has the better ability to collect infrared light that enables the telescope to see more objects in more distant locations with more detail, Forbes reports.

With these new capabilities, scientists will be able to study newly forming planets and analyze the atmosphere of exoplanets, paving way for the search for life in space and a better understanding of the universe and its cosmos.

What Happens To Hubble Space Telescope?

For a generation, the Hubble Space Telescope has exposed some of the universe's deepest and darkest secrets. It has been instrumental for the understanding of the cosmos around the planet and even in distant galaxies.

However, with the years of usage, the telescope has aged. New innovations of today have paved way for better and more precise technologies to be used in the next generation telescopes.

The Hubble Telescope in undeniably old, and in fact, it has remained unmaintained since the last space shuttle mission in 2009. The observatory is still working today but it is expected to stop data collection in the 2020s.

NASA said that the new James Webb Space Telescope will enhance Hubble's current capabilities. Despite the new telescope having a higher resolution and ability to see more objects farther away and with more detail, it lacks Hubble's ultraviolet capabilities.

That is why astronomers and scientists are urged to provide as many UV proposals as possible because once the telescope dies, there isn't any plan to launch its replacement and successor.

HA HA. I never noticed that till now. This is what happens when you use all the cool names too soon.

Odd to me is that Europe is further from Christianity than we are but more willing to credit Reverend Monsignor Georges Lemaitre with being the originator of the expanding universe theory. In this country they (Liberals) would burn an observatory to the ground rather than name it after any filthy Christian.

Hubbel gets the credit but he really only confirmed what Lemaitre already believed.

@Cripplecreek

Well,ya have to admit that proving something has a greater impact than just thinking something might be true.
