A group of Capital Region residents is asking supermarkets and convenience stores to remove tabloids from next to the checkout counter because they peddle "fake news."

Calling itself Altamont Main Street USA, the group sent the letter March 4, targeting the National Enquirer, the Globe, the National Examiner and other such publications. They were sent to Price Chopper, Hannaford, ShopRite, Cumberland Farms, Rite Aid, CVS, Wal-Mart and Target.

"We'd like those publications to be moved," said Amy Bloch of Albany, a member of the group. "We don't think people should have to see news that is political and that isn't real... people shouldn't have to see them."

Castina Charles of Schenectady, lead organizer for the citizen group (...) described the group as an outgrowth from MoveOn.org.

That's where Soros's case falls apart. The National Enquirer cannot be 'fake news', because they don't claim to be 'news' at all. The Enquirer is for entertainment purposes only, and everyone already knows that. I hope they tell Soros to go to hell.

When I was a kid the Enquirer printed gory crime stories accompanied by gory photographs.  My mother would hide it from us.  My siblings and I always found it and were always frightened by what we read. Nowadays it publishes other trash.  Times never change.

Who wants an Enquirer expose about how the meat department in their store slaughters aliens and sells them to customers?

I'll mock the Enquirer - constantly - but this group can buy a copy, fold it until it's all sharp corners, and shove it where the sun don't shine. People are free to buy and read garbage if they want.
