New Discovery About The Moon's Age Could Rewrite History

Based on their calculations, scientists believe we may have been off by over a couple hundred million years!

The moon is now believed to be 4.51 billion years old, meaning it formed just 60 million years after the formation of our solar system.

It will be interesting to see what people think of their lutetium/hafnium-ratio assumption for the early solar system.  Their estimate yields a minimum age.

As an aside, it's neat to see the large offset in ε¹⁷⁸Hf for the soil sample exposed to cosmic rays (Fig 2).
