Reporter Sharyl Attkisson says feds hacked computer, CBS protected Obama

Washington Times, October 28, 2014, Valerie Richardson

Those who suspect the worst about the Obama administration and the media won’t have their beliefs contradicted by former CBS News reporter Sharyl Attkisson’s explosive book, “Stonewalled: My Fight for Truth Against the Forces of Obstruction, Intimidation and Harassment in Obama’s Washington.”

“Stonewalled,” in which Ms. Attkisson recounts the conflicts over coverage with network executives leading up to her resignation in March, snip, but eye-popping excerpts are making their way into the press and social media.

The most incendiary charge: that Ms. Attkisson’s personal computer and CBS laptop were hacked after she began filing stories about Benghazi that were unflattering to the Obama administration. A source who checked her laptop said the hacker used spyware “proprietary to a government agency,” according to a Monday article in the New York Post.

“This is outrageous. Worse than anything Nixon ever did. I wouldn’t have believed something like this could happen in the United States of America,” said the source, according to Ms. Attkisson’s account in the New York Post.

In Oct. 3 video preview of book, Ms. Attkisson describes how her computer suddenly went haywire as she was working at home on Benghazi story.

“As I was typing and working on questions for a Benghazi-related story, the data started wiping kind of at hyperspeed, being deleted, as if computer had been hijacked and I had no control over it,” Ms. Attkisson says in the video.

“I knew because I had had so many anomalies over the past year and a half, two years, that someone was interfering with the computer,” she said. “It was described to me by the computer experts I consulted with afterward that that was purely an attempt to let me know that they could do that and they were watching and that they were in my computer.”

   pffftttt.

My Dear sweet Mother (pushing 90 with a short stick), used this very same argument on me a couple of days ago and it was then that I came to believe, a ticket on the Trump Train overrides all she ever preached to me, my entire long life, Two wrongs CAN make a right, after all, whoda thunk it.

I cut her some slack, you, @Right_in_Virginia  not so much
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

Sometimes the rush to condemn Trump can look like a defense of Obama/Hillary.

Exposing the Obama administration for what it was appears to upset you to the point of incoherence @corbe  Buckle up dear, you may be in for a tough few weeks.

The hacking of Sharyl Attkisson's computer would have not only been front page headlines with a Republican president, but it would be fodder for the talking heads 24/7 for months on end.

Yet only a tiny fraction of Americans have ever heard her story.  And only that same tiny fraction has ever heard about the letter sent to Obama signed by leading journalists pleading him to back off and allow Free Speech in America again.

What's the latest Vegas odds on the next Civil War?

I Liked her reporting but her claim that her computer was "hacked" was a tad flimsy IIRC. Something that could have been caused by a stuck key on her keyboard.

Well if you don't believe her, how about James Rosen?

We know that a white hat hacker confirmed cheryl's claim of the hacking, but what was the basis of her concern that CBS executives were protecting Obama.  ?

his did happen, both officials should resign. Second, the White House bears significant responsibility for this scandal. By encouraging and accepting this intelligence, the White House used the NSA as an illegitimate means to undermine its legislative opponents. This represented a major abuse of presidential power, since it employed the enormous capabilities of an American intelligence service against the U.S. Congress. It also probably violates the U.S. Constitution’s separation-of-powers principles and the Fourth Amendment, since surveillance may have been conducted against U.S. citizens without a warrant.

Take it easy, Frank. I said her evidence was flimsy, not that all incidents were.

The claim that Obama officials did not directly instruct the NSA to collect this information but simply accepted what the NSA sent them is preposterous. If the Journal article is accurate, Obama officials knew they were receiving intelligence on the private conversations of U.S. congressmen on a major policy dispute. These officials knew they were not supposed to have this intelligence but did not cut it off, because they wanted to use it to defeat efforts by Netanyahu and Congress to derail the Iran nuclear deal. This story is another indication of how desperate the Obama administration was to get a nuclear deal with Iran.
