Outrage over food cart serving free food only for ‘black people’

A makeshift “black people”-only food cart caused plenty of indigestion Thursday in the Bronx, outraging onlookers who called the stunt racist.

A man and a woman set up the cart around 9 a.m. outside Bronx Supreme Court, advertising their free doughnuts and juice on Styrofoam plates.

Their three handmade signs read: “Free Food For Black People.”

Passersby weren’t amused.

“Are you kidding me? If I did something like that, it would be considered hate,” railed one woman, who was repeatedly denied any grub when she confronted the duo.

A young man running the cart also refused to serve a Post reporter. And the woman insisted the cart was not restricted to just African-Americans.

“Mexican people are black,” she offered.

Used to be. Not so much any more, but it does still happen.

When I was in Israel, the Ashkenazim [White Jews mostly from North Europe] considered most Arabs and some Mediterranean people to be Blacks. The Northern Europe and Scandinavia definition of 'Black' is totally different from what we are used to in America.

I agree with the health code violation.  But, the WGAF ... not so much.  If you'd like to know WGAF, set up a food cart and mark it "Free Food for Whites Only".

Any time anyone eats from a street-cart, they are taking a chance. This cart would likely be a higher risk than others. I wouldn't eat from it. If they hate White people that much, who knows what they would do to the food before they gave it to me.


Sounds like it was not a 'Blacks only' venture. It was more like a 'no White people' service. And I'm sure they had all required paperwork done with license and permit. /s

The guy who runs the local food truck in my area pees and craps in a 5 gallon bucket in the back of the truck. Not sure how closely he washes his hands

A few decades ago I was watching a documentary about N. Ireland. During the doc some Protestant woman was asked why she didn't associate with or like Catholics.  She said for one thing they were darker-skinned than Protestants therefore I suppose making them inferior.
As someone who is about 10% Celtic I laughed at that one.  And attending Catholic schools for 12 years I never came across any of the many  students of Irish ancestry who looked dark to me. Most were pale-skinned and many had freckles and red hair.
But I suppose some people will use any excuse to try and separate themselves from people they don't like.

I have experience with exactly what you are talking about. She's referring to people who are called 'Black Irish'. They are not Blacks like an American would think of Blacks. They are Irish citizens who are of Mediterranean decent, mostly of Spanish decent. Therefore, they tend to have dark hair, brown eyes, and darker skin than paper White.

That's what I have always been told,also. They were supposedly survivors of the Spanish Armada that came north to attack the British,and were either sunken by the British or a big storm,and the survivors that swam ashore became the "Black Irish".

Which is pretty ironic when you understand the Celts all came to Ireland from northern Spain.
