Around 1,000 tiny chicks were found abandoned in a field in Cambridgeshire.
The one-day-old baby birds were discovered by a member of the public on Friday, running around in Crowland, near Peterborough.
The RSPCA have since launched an investigation to find out who left the chicks to die.
‘I have never seen anything like it – it was just a sea of yellow,’ RSPCA inspector Justin Stubbs said.

‘And the noise was unbelievable. The chicks are only about a day old and are really tiny and quite delicate.
‘Some of the birds were dead or dying when we arrived so some, sadly, had to be humanely put to sleep. Thankfully, most of the chicks did not appear to be suffering.’
After discovering the chicks, members of the public came to help the RSPCA put them all into boxes where they could huddle together for warmth.
It’s thought the babies came from a commercial chick producer nearby, and may have been abandoned by a third-party.
