Most London men have their illnesses dismissed as “man flu” by women who think they need to be stop overreacting, a study reveals.
Menswear retailer Jacamo, which conducted the research, found that 55 per cent of men in the capital had their sickness dismissed by the “derogative term”.
More than 60 per cent of women confess to initially not believing men are genuinely unwell.
And a third of women surveyed admitted to trying to avoid encouraging men to be “needy”.
British doctor and TV presenter Dr Christian Jessen said: “There is now no doubt that man flu is a real thing and not just made up by men looking for sympathy.
“Many studies have looked for possible explanations, recent ones suggesting the increased testosterone levels found in men may weaken their immune response in the flu virus.
