    US officials were reportedly concerned talks took place as Trump praised Putin
    There is no evidence there was cooperation to impact the election, report states
    Officials said Trump and President Obama were both briefed on the contacts
    The Kremlin said Wednesday, however, that the report wasn't based on any facts

A new report alleges members of Donald Trump's team were in contact with Russian intelligence officials during the year leading up to the presidential election.

The New York Times claims call records and intercepted conversations show: 'members of Donald J. Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and other Trump associates had repeated contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election.'

The Times said its allegations are based off interviews it has carried out with four 'current and former American officials'.

It claims US intelligence was worried because the alleged contact was taking place as then-candidate Trump continued to praise Russian President Vladimir Putin on the campaign trail.

The Kremlin said on Wednesday, however, that the report was not based on any facts.

If there was evidence of collusion during the election, or anything explosively damaging to Trump on tape don't you think it would've already come out? Why would they hold back now?

Perhaps nothing particularly illegal was done, but the media & whomever else is happy to let the implications that something was just lie out there forever unsubstantiated. Eventually each 'leaked report' some particular party within the campaign had a phone conversation with someone in Russia, considered mundane before, will seem like a bombshell, but no one will be able to tell you exactly why. Its the way these things play out.
