Quote
With President Trump pledging $1 trillion for infrastructure, California officials on Wednesday took a break from their feud with the new administration to propose a list of $100 billion in projects for possible federal funding to help rebuild the Golden State’s system of crumbling roads and bridges and improve transit and water storage.

And yet they're gonna secede. Figure that one out.

Why would they need any federal money to fix anything?  I've been assuming that they have created their socialist utopia and are now just enjoying wonderful lives!

Why do the fruits and nuts in San Diego think they rate 1/10th instead of 1/50th? The left is supposed to be all about equality, right?

Hmmm.  I'm suspecting Sanctuary States aren't going to be high on Trump's priority list....

Since they contribute more to the Federal budget than they get back, I can't argue with them wanting a nice chunk of this, as long as Trump is stealing it from everyone.

On the other hand, they're wealthier and blessed by virtue of their geography, so they shouldn't mind paying more.

Think of it as their 'fair share'.

PS I live there, too.

Does not compute. Just because the federal government spends money in your state doesn't mean you are getting something back, often it's a bad thing.

Plus we are talking about debt spending. I guess we can make Kalipornia take a big chunk of the new debt, but isn't the state already bankrupt?

CA barely pays more than it gets back.   Something that is true of about 14 different states.    But in looking at the numbers I question the methodology.  They don't really consider all forms of federal aid, only welfare, food stamps, grants and the like.

Do they consider farm subsidies?   Do they consider all the money thats spent on the multitude of illegals in CA?

CA is on a fast track to bankruptcy so they are hardly the model to emulate.

Fair enough.  I note that in comparing intrastate contributions/costs (urban vs rural), many things aren't counted.  So that's probably the case for the federal tally.

Also one needs to consider all the Military/GOV bureaucracy spending there would be pared down to basically the US Embassy to California, that's a lot of dough, as it is in Texas.

But both Trump and California love them some fast Train boondoggles, so there's that also.

I think I would give California the same amount in money that they gave in electoral votes.

I thought that the northern part of Mexico was self sufficient? Well if they come up short, they can ask Google/Fakebook/The Cartels for walking around money.

I think we should wait on help until they decide whether to secede or not and whether to continue to defy with sanctuary cities and maybe a few other things I'll think of later.

Interesting, all this harping on California because some lunatics are floating a call for secession, what were the responses from you goodly folks back in 2012 when this was going on?

There were eventually secession petitions set up for all fifty states, with six (Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia and Texas) reaching the 25,000 threshold.[5] The Texas succession e-petition ultimately received the most e-signatures, almost 126,000.[6]

There are more than a few screwed up states, and I would include more than a small part of Texas where more than a little socialistic insanity occurs. Those of us living in California already have a big enough cross to bear with the last three craptastic governors and our lunatic Senators and Reps without everyone else dogpiling on top. :poohappen:

We have one thing working in California's favor, once the demonrats and enviro-nazis have driven most of the industry out of the state all the illegals will leave and California may, just might, return to a more balanced representation. :xedfingers:

@GtHawk

It's far more likely California would become part of mexico.

Interestingly enough there is a very good book out there essentially covering this same idea.

It is definitely worth a read.

Eh, what you all are not taking into account is the rapid increase in Hispanics in other states that has been going on for decades, thirty years ago I had Hispanic employees and their extended families moving from California to the Midwest and southern states, and it's not like Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada are immune to increased influence of Hispanics. One of the reasons we stopped going every few years to Las Vegas was because of the dregs of the Hispanics polluting the strip with their panhandling and pushing pornographic flyers. California is not special, it's just a tad further along a path a number of other states are following.

The real problem with sanctuary states like California is that they've abandoned the very principles that made American great.

Our country's traditional "melting pot" blueprint allowed immigrants to arrive legally, acclimate to the American way of life, and provide the opportunities to build a better life.  All that has been thrown out the window by Liberals despite what they tell you on camera.  Their "new and improved" attitudes towards immigration is not only unsustainable but hurts worst the Mexican immigrants themselves.

Immigration reform has been on the table for decades but powerful groups work very hard to curtail any meaningful discussion on the topic.  It is impossible to engage in any sort of rational debate without cries of racism being shouted before any discussion begins.  Take a close look at those groups who stymie any rational debate on the subject and you will find they are the very ones who claim they are on the side of the immigrants.

Progressive journalists, government bureaucrats, academics, and La Raza view illegal aliens as a new political constituency to be exploited for their own personal gain.  There is good money in outrage and those who fan the flames are cashing in.  Yet try to sit down with any of these groups to talk immigration reform and you get a brick wall in return, plus cries of racism.

As with most things, follow the money.

----

Central Texas, where I live, is a true melting pot.  Everywhere you look there are cultural ties to Mexico, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Czechoslovakia, China, Vietnam and most any country you can name.  Besides the awesome variety of food choices, these cultures coexist together very well, intermarry, work and play together, and have the view diversification is a win win all the way around.

Yet Liberal policies are working overtime to tear it all apart.  Their divide and conquer approach serves only their own short term purposes.  Try to explain to a Liberal how critical it is that immigrants learn the English language.  That 20 year old can only live off back breaking work until his back gives out.  At 40 he is left with darn few options if he doesn't speak the language.  With no back to do the hard lifting and no way to communicate with the rest of us his only remaining option is victimhood.

Which is just the way they want it.
