2 GOP Senators Voting Against DeVos, Which Could Mean a TieMike Pence would then be the tie-breaker (Newser) – Betsy DeVos' confirmation vote in the Senate Wednesday will be tight: Two Republican senators announced Wednesday that they will oppose Devos' nomination to be secretary of Education. Assuming all of the Senate's 48 Democrats also oppose DeVos, that means she'd have 50 yes votes and 50 no votes if no other Republicans oppose her, with Vice President Mike Pence potentially breaking the tie, the Hill reports. Sen. Susan Collins of Maine was the first to announce on the Senate floor that she would vote against DeVos, making her the first Republican to oppose one of President Trump's cabinet nominees. Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska was the second to announce she would vote no.Collins said it was a "very difficult decision," but that she was "troubled and surprised" by DeVos' lack of familiarity with the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act. Sen. Susan Collins of Maine Sen. Lisa Murkowski of AlaskaI coulda guessed that one.
I hear she is very pro-common core.
Well, damn, if someone had told me I'd be agreeing with Collins and Murkowski on appointments, I'd have called them a liar.Even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut.
Repeat after me:"We must re/elect any Republican no matter what. No matter how leftist their record. No matter how many times they side with democrats in the past. Because keeping liberals in office is the conservative thing to do. No matter what."/Idiot Republican voter
I didn't know we were supposed to be pro-establishment insider and pro-common core now.
So you think that a Dem in her seat would have magically voted for DeVos?Wow.
You are pro NEA and Teachers Unions. What's your point.
What would the difference be on this particular vote? Same result. The difference OVERALL would be that the GOP, sans those two liberals, would be a better entity for their absence. Better an enemy in their own camp. Unless you believe Hamilton was a fool that didn't know what he was talking about.
I'm not. I oppose public education, period.
You should have seen the rage I inspired on twitter this morning when I asked if anyone knows where Neil Gorsuch stands on things like federalism, campaign finance or eminent domain. I didn't get any answers but I was accused of being a traitor among other things.
@Cripplecreek You are not a traitor. Shit stirrer. Obtuse. Trump hater. But not a traitor.
how dare you want more information before giving someone a lifetime appointment to a very powerful position, don't you remember Jungle Book? When the snake sings "Trust In Me", you are supposed to be hypnotized and obey.
