Senate panel votes emergency approvals of Mnuchin, Price

Using emergency action to break a political standoff, Republicans on the Senate Committee on Finance Wednesday approved President Trump's nominations of Steven Mnuchin as Treasury secretary and Rep. Tom Price as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.

With a pair of 14-0 votes, Republicans sent the nominations to the Senate floor for expected final approvals with no Democrats present for the action.

The surprise outcome came after Democrats stalled Tuesday's scheduled vote on the nominations by refusing to attend unless they got additional financial information from Mnuchin, a multi-millionaire hedge fund manager and movie industry financier, and Price, an orthopedic surgeon and GOP House member from Georgia.

Interesting.  Did they have to change committee rules to do this?
