GOP won't rule out killing the filibuster for Supreme Court pick

Republicans are reluctant to deploy the nuclear option to get Trump's nominee through — but they're keeping it as an option.

Senate Republicans are open to gutting the filibuster if Democrats block President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick Neil Gorsuch — and they just might have the numbers to do it.

Interviews this week with nearly 20 key Republicans — from “old bulls” to party leaders to junior members — show the GOP is reluctant to deploy the so-called nuclear option but deliberately won’t rule it out. The downside, of course, is that any temporary advantage they’d gain now could come back to haunt them when Democrats eventually return to the majority.

The RATS have to be careful on this one.  This guy is going to be an indelible superstar in the Judiciary Committee hearings.   If they listen to the screaming lunatics and block his nomination, the Nervous Nellies in the GOP Conference will have the courage to throw down the Nuke against the unhinged Democrat intransigence.

It's like Truman's torturous decision to use our WWII nukes:  Once we dropped Little Boy on Hiroshima, it was easier to drop Fat Man on Nagasaki.  I anticipate that the paralyzed by insane lunatic Democrats will be forced to make McConnell throw the nuke for Gorsuch.  When Kennedy retires or Ginsburg expires it's going to be far easier just to lay down the nuke to obliterate the Shmucky/Leahy nonsense on a guy like Bill Pryor.

I really hope it comes to that. I have no doubt that the Rats would end the filibuster if they could get a radical leftist on the SCOTUS. The "old Bulls and their tradition" is so much garbage. The Rats stopped being gentlemen seeking common ground a long time ago. Yes, one day the Rats will control the Senate and I have no illusions that they will suddenly act like gentlemen. They are far left socialists who want to impose their "utopia" on us from their ivory towers.

I don't think there are any pollyannas anymore in the Republican Conference.

And, Trump has accurately calculated that the folks who elected him are far more happy that he is faithfully pursuing his promises than wigged out by Soros' protesting freaks in Portland, Seattle, SF, NYC etc. etc. - who are serving only to cement the notion that their vote for Trump was absolutely correct.

I saw this entire scenario play out in Wisconsin five years ago when Walker won:  Protests, investigations, media mendacity, litigation delays because of shopped Leftist judges, more anger, more protests. more media lies ad nauseum.

Bottom line?  Scott Walker and the GOP Legislature pursued their mandate fearlessly and Walker won a recall and a re-election, GOP leaders improved their majorities, conservative Judges won high profile WI Supreme Court elections,  Ron (Most vulnerable GOP Freshman in the Senate) Johnson won re-election and Trump won Wisconsin as a Republican for the first time in 30 something years.

You ignore the freaks, you ignore the enemy media, you outfox the Democrats on policy and procedure and you WIN!

Why show your cards?

Not a good strategy, so they are doing the correct thing in keeping it tight to the vest

SCOTUS starts hearing some key cases in April.  Whatever happens, Gorsuch needs to be in the ninth chair for those cases.

Whatever it takes.  There is no doubt that Gorsuch is going to get a hearing in the Judiciary Committee where he'll try to decipher what the old dotard Patrick Leahy is trying to say.   Hopefully Grassley keeps the Kabuki show short and in order and the RATS are made to force the issue so that Gorsuch is sworn in as a Supreme Court Justice in time for the April hearings.
