Germany: 6 teenagers found dead in garden house

BERLIN –  Police in Germany say the bodies of six teenagers have been found dead in a garden house near the southern city of Wuerzburg.

Bavarian police say the owner of the garden in Arnstein, about 75 kilometers (46.6 miles) east of Frankfurt, found the bodies of his son, daughter and four others, all aged 18 or 19, on Sunday morning

The article reads no signs of violence and little else is being reported on this. So, the cause is unclear now; I guess we can speculate. Strange and tragic.

Cause is unclear still but the "Die Welt" (the world) in their English news service reports:

Police initally suggested that initial signs pointed to the youths having overdosed on an unknown substance, but later said carbon monoxide poisoning may have been the cause. There was a woodstove discovered in the shed, which had been used that evening, and authorities were reportedly looking at whether it was connected to the youths' deaths.

"It remains unclear what led to the death of the six people, but police said there were no indications of any violent crime," said the police.

Years ago I visited an old friend and when I went into his bedroom, I saw his gas space heater was putting out an all yellow flame. The ceiling and walls down to about 2 feet off the floor were totally covered in soot. There were carbon balls on the ceramic radiants of the heater and all over the floor underneath. So I adjusted it for him. He admitted that he woke up every morning with a splitting headache. Its a wonder he even woke up at all.

I would suspect Carbon Monoxide, but the red complexions of the victims should be apparent if that was the cause. Anything which would displace oxygen could be the cause, too, but some cyanotic appearance should be evident there, too.

Tragic, either way.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
