Aspartame in Diet Soda Linked to Significant Health Issues, Tumors
January 24, 2017 | NaturalNews Network | NaturalNews.com | 44 views

By Ethan Huff

They’re a popular mealtime beverage for millions of people who believe that by drinking them, they’re avoiding the pitfalls of sugar consumption. But diet soda pop is neither healthy nor safe, as research continues to show that its primary sweetening constituent in most cases, aspartame, is a damaging neurotoxin that can lead to a host of chronic health issues, including cancer.

The largest study of its kind ever conducted on aspartame was put together by researchers from the University of Iowa. They looked at 60,000 women who consumed aspartame-laden diet beverages over the course of 10 years and found that those who consume two or more diet drinks per day are significantly more prone than other women to develop cardiovascular disease — and to die from it.

I dunno.  There are a huge number of studies that point very much in the opposite direction, so this study faces an uphill battle.

And, again, it could be correlation - those who struggle with their weight tend to drink diet sodas for instance. I guess I'll have to look at their methodology.  Or not - I don't drink soda, so I'm not that interested.

Ah ha:

Quote
Dr. Ankur Vyas, lead investigator of the study, noted that this is one of the largest studies ever to look at aspartame, and that the findings are “consistent with some previous data, especially those linking diet drinks to metabolic syndrome.”

“On average, women who consumed two or more diet drinks a day were younger, more likely to be smokers, and had a higher prevalence of diabetes, high blood pressure, and higher body mass index,” the paper explained.

Daily Sheeple linking to Natural News citing a study which doesn't say what the headline claims (some correlation only (not causation nor direct linking)).

I didn't say that everything God made should be an ingredient. I said if God didn't make it, it shouldn't be an ingredient.

I just finished off my last jar of Smucker's strawberry jam... cracked open a jar of my mother's home made preserves. No comparison whatsoever. Almost everything that goes in my face these days is readily identifiable, with ingredients void of any sort of scientific name. It's better. And I will wager, better for me.

The Daily Sheeple. I lol'd at that source. But in all honesty, they are probably more reliable than all the Fake News ABCBSCNN sources.

Shouldn't that help preserve you?  :smokin:

PS. Hells bells isn't methanol a poison in it's own right. Anti-freeze?

@Idaho_Cowboy
@roamer_1

Actually its not, its pointing to the fallacy commonly displayed by many (no roamer in this case) that its foolish to question ingredients or assume that just because something has been in our food supply its safe.

Just because something is natural doesn't mean its safe.  Nor is it safe to assume that our food supply is 100% safe nor that studies sponsored by the aspartame industry are reliable.   The same goes for GMO and a host of other issues facing us.

A reasonable person questions what they are told.

Exactly.  There have been "studies" that show that people who drink diet soda are more prone to diabetes.

Your lysdexic spelling aside, yes. :laugh:

I think aspartame is mainly feared to be a neurotoxin.  That's one of the most famous dangers of aspartame's methanol component--which goes on to produce formaldehyde (and formic acid, too, I believe) in the body.  Also, I personally knew a Marine Corps pilot who was temporarily grounded for symptoms of multiple sclerosis but who was "cured" (and restored to the flightline) when his docs made him stop drinking several NutraSweet drinks per day.  (I believe that this adverse affect of aspartame has been reported in the medical literature.  Anyway, I specifically remember reading about it somewhere.  The condition was called pseudo-MS.)

Google confirmed my suspicions, Methanol is a component in anti-freeze. It also known as wood alcohol and caused a lot of deaths and blindness back in prohibition. Incidentally the antidote is ethanol.

Interesting that you raise the issue of GMOs.  Monsanto reportedly owned the patent for NutraSweet until it finally expired a few years ago.  I have heard from a few different sources that Monsanto opposed stevia in the food supply on the grounds that it had never been proven safe.  When the NutraSweet patent expired, the story goes, Monsanto withdrew its objections to stevia and started growing its own GMO stevia plants for seeds in that new cash crop industry.

Can anyone confirm this story?

Yeah, the ethanol antidote was discovered many years ago, in Sweden, I think, when they took some folks who had gone blind from imbibing wood alcohol and kept them roaring drunk for several days using IV ethanol.  The ethanol displaced the methanol bound to their optic nerves, and they got their sight back.
