Ex-CIA director: Trump's comments will lead to 'wave' of resignations
By Mallory Shelbourne - 01/07/17 12:23 PM EST

Former CIA acting director Michael Morell said President-elect Donald Trump’s rhetoric will undermine the agency by causing a “wave of resignations” and affecting its ability to work with foreign intelligence services.

“First, expect a wave of resignations. Attrition at the C.I.A., which has been remarkably low since Sept. 11, 2001, will skyrocket,” Morell wrote in a New York Times op-ed published Friday.

"Former CIA acting director Michael Morell"  bla bla bla..  Here is a guy who served 33 years with the Central Intelligence Agency and never made his mark on the agency.  He'd leave a bigger stain if he taped a Tea bag to his ass and swam across the Potomac.

Maybe a big turnover will be a good thing. The intelligence agencies have become very political.

Yes, and I suspect there's a certain level of complacency,  as well.

This "wave" was going to happen anyway. One third of the civilian federal workforce is over 55, DoD has sweetened buyout amounts to clear out dead weight.

You can avoid reality, but you cannot avoid the consequences of avoiding reality.

I've with "probably a good idea" crowd.  I expect new blood and  shake up in good for any agency, especially an intelligence agency.

President Bush had numerous Clinton supporters in the executive branch actively thwarting his efforts throughout his presidency.  I don't see anyone other than 0bama's supporters wanting to resign, so I'm pretty sure that clearing out the dead wood is going to be quite beneficial.

Cool. Maybe Trump can make more disparaging comments aimed towards the EPA, Depts of education, energy, interior, health and human services, etc etc etc.

Works for me.  As Skeeter said, maybe we can parlay this into lots more FedGov employees quitting.  Cutting the bureaucracy by the employment equivalent of self-deportation--I love it.

Sun Tzu on the use of spies:

Hence it is that which none in the whole army are more intimate relations to be maintained than with spies. None should be more liberally rewarded. In no other business should greater secrecy be preserved.

Spies cannot be usefully employed without a certain intuitive sagacity.

They cannot be properly managed without benevolence and straightforwardness.

Having a large mass of highly-trained and unemployed spies will mean there is a large mass of highly-trained and unemployed spies seeking employment in the field that they are trained... aka: spycraft.

And if America isn't hiring, well; they still need to eat.

I wonder who'd be interested in hiring them?

Like hell. Most of the CIA is nothing but bureaucrats and desk jockies. Most of them couldn't get a job at McDonalds. They sure are not getting intelligence jobs with China.

Our "intelligence" agencies missed ISIS, missed 9/11/2001, missed Maj. Hasan, missed the beltway sniper, missed Orlando, missed San Bernardino, missed Garland Tx, missed Ft. Lauderdale, missed plenty of big stuff.

So the threat from a "former, acting" guy leaves me wondering "what is the problem?"

The terms of their employment with the CIA would put the kibosh on that; unless they would prefer spending a lot of time in the stony lonesome.

I think some on this thread are using knee jerk reactions about our CIA agents.  Those abroad are risking their lives every day.

When my Bob was assigned to work in the pentagon with intelligence coming in, that included CIA agents/spies and their reports, he and a few others were offered CIA agent/spy assignments overseas.  That was because someone had outed our agents overseas and a number were killed.  I would never speak against our CIA agents and the more experience they have, the better their reports are and more likely they are to stay alive.  Put inexperienced agents overseas and it will be regretted and more will die.

However, Trump will continue to do what Trump wants without regard to anyone but him, and regardless of the outcome.  Perhaps what he wants are nice looking agents as "looks" is super important to him.
