FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP/KDKA) – News media outlets are reporting that multiple people have been shot at Fort Lauderdale international airport.

On its official Twitter account, airport officials said there was an “ongoing incident” in the Terminal 2 baggage claim area. They did not elaborate.

Miami area television stations are reporting that at least nine people were shot and that the shooter is in custody.

CBS News is reporting three people are dead.

News helicopters hovering over the scene showed hundreds of people standing on the tarmac early Friday afternoon as an ambulance drove by and numerous law enforcement officers rushed to the scene.

Former White House spokesman Ari Fleischer tweeted that he was at the airport when shots were fired and “everyone is running.”  ...

A gunman is in custody after a deadly shooting at the Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport.

Sources tell NBC Miami that nine people have been shot and three people have died.

Video from the airport Friday afternoon showed hundreds of passengers corralled together on the tarmac with emergency vehicles parked outside the terminal with lights flashing.

MIAMI (CBSMiami) — Three people have died after a shooting at  Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).
One suspect is in custody in connection to the shooting, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say someone opened fire around 1 p.m. in the baggage claim area of Terminal 2.
Multiple patients were taken to the hospital. At least one was taken to Broward General Hospital.

Been watching Shep/Fox News, since this started.  That poor man/wife/mother-in-law, forced to get on the floor and stay there during this second alarm, him talking to Shep all the time.  You could hear the fear in his voice.  Sheriff still saying 5 dead.

Just now, 2:16, central time, a man handcuffed in terminal one.

We are not safe anywhere in this country anymore.  I traveled to many countries without fear at all.  The last time I flew was in 2000, then 2001, the towers fell and air travel was never the same after that.  Airports are not safe, not safe in your church, not safe anywhere.  I live 20 minutes from Garland, TX, (used to be a counselor in those schools), and that is where one cop killed the terrorists about to kill people attending the art show of Mohammad.

Always be aware of your surroundings, even going to the grocery.  Our country is not safe.  These people at the airport today were just living their lives and now they are dead.

shooter was passenger from Canadian flight with a checked gun.....then went into the bathroom and loaded it..
