Russia withdraws naval battlegroup from Syria

January 06, 2017

Russia has announced the withdrawal of the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier and its naval battlegroup from Syria.

(MOSCOW, RUSSIA) The Russian Navy is returning the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov and its group from the Mediterranean Sea back to Russia, the defense ministry reports. The move comes as Russia begins reducing its military presence in Syria.

The Kuznetsov group will return to its home base in Severomorsk, the chair of the Russian General Staff, Army Gen. Valery Gerasimov, announced on Friday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a partial pullout of military forces from Syria after negotiating a ceasefire deal with Iran and Turkey. He said it offered an opportunity to end the six-year armed conflict in the Middle Eastern nation.

The planes from the carrier group have problems staying out of the sea.
They lost 2 Combat Aircraft, a SU-33 and a Mig 29 in the span of 3 weeks (11/14-12/3) which constituted 20% of the total fighter/bomber aircraft on the carrier.

Doesn't look like their ready for 'prime time', to me.
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.
