Obama grotesquely had himself awarded a Defense Dept. medal yesterday

President Obama has another ironic award for his trophy shelf, to accompany his Nobel Peace Prize and all those participation trophies he got at Punahou for his basketball skills.  His appointee and subordinate Ash Carter yesterday pinned a military medal --  the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service -- on his boss, as Warner Todd Huston reported for Breitbart.

I narrated the Military Farewell to President Bush in 2009...the same ceremony Obama was at yesterday.

During that ceremony I read the orders awarding W the same medal. There are pics from that ceremony on the Internet where you can see it pinned to his lapel.

He didn't 'award himself' this medal. It is awarded by the Department of Defense. It is nominated by the OSD head and approved by the Secretary of Defense. It is customary for a President to receive this award upon leaving office. From what I can find just with a quick search by President's names and this award, it has been awarded to a exiting president as long as the award existed.

Even though the DoD is an executive branch office, the President has no part in the nominating or approval process.

It has gotten to the point one should validate and verify everything, especially if you think it reinforces your beliefs. I noticed on a certain other site, everyone jumped on the bandwagon and no one actually fact checked the story themselves.
