WH: Democrats Have 'The Advantage of Being Strongly Unified...Republicans Aren't'

(CNSNews.com) - Republicans soon will control all three branches of the federal government, but Democrats have the advantage because they are unified and Republicans are not.

That was the message from the Obama White House on Wednesday, as spokesman Josh Earnest explained why President Obama made a rare trip to Capitol Hill to speak with his fellow Democrats about defending the Affordable Care Act and other priorities.

"It was an opportunity to say thank you to Democrats in Congress who have been fighting shoulder to shoulder with him, to move the country in a direction that's more fair, that's more just, that's more prosperous and that's more safe," Earnest said.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) also pointed to Rand Paul's op-ed at a news conference on Capitol Hill Wednesday:

"Well, we've already had Rand Paul say that he is not for repeal without some kind of replace. You have a good number of other Republicans who are really worried about this."

Schumer said the initial vote to repeal is an "easy" vote for Republicans, but he doesn't know if they'll get enough votes to pass a replacement. "I think they're going to have a lot of trouble," he said. "So I would say that they're going to have far more trouble then they ever imagined, and as they move through it, they're going to start losing people on their side."
