Dr. Sowell is in his 80s, so I guess it's time.  But his voice of reason will be missed.

He will be missed.  I hope he enjoys his retirement and stays healthy for many more years.

I'm surprised there is so little interest in this. That's too bad.

I read about this a few days ago. Makes me sad.  Hopefully, we will live to see another such brilliant columnist. (Not looking so good in these days of fake news...)

A lack of posts doesn't necessarily mean a lack of interest, @DB.  This was posted more than a week after the announcement, so there had been plenty of time to digest the news already.

I've often said in the past it's too bad  Walter Williams or Thomas Sowell wasn't our first black president

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
Sad news.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I remember T Sowell with Milton Freeman when they debated socialist during the showings of Free to choose.

Brilliant Principled man. Vision of the ANointed is my favorite book by Thomas Sowell, hope he is healthy and has many good years to come.

A good man indeed.  He always had a knack for putting together reasonable arguments - voices of reason are in short supply these days.

As a side note, most people won't remember that Free To Choose was a show on PBS.  There was a time in this country when PBS made a concerted effort to ensure their array of shows covered the whole spectrum of views.  They did so because as recipients of taxpayer dollars they were obligated to be fair and balanced.
