Former president George W. Bush and Laura Bush will attend President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, Bush’s office announced Tuesday.
“They are pleased to be able to witness the peaceful transfer of power — a hallmark of American democracy — and swearing-in of President Trump and Vice President Pence,” Bush’s office said in a statement.
Bush will join President Barack Obama and former president Jimmy Carter as the former West Wing occupants to attend. While former presidents traditionally attend the inauguration ceremonies, it is unclear if Bill and Hillary Clinton plan to attend.
George H.W. Bush will not be there, with a spokesman citing the 92-year-old former president’s age as the reason for his planned absence.
George W. Bush, whose younger brother Jeb came up short in his bid for the 2016 Republican nomination, did not vote for Trump in November. Bush and his wife voted for “None Of The Above for President,” a spokesman said, but voted for other down ballot Republicans.
