California's effect
« on: December 22, 2016, 06:22:48 pm »
Quite a few people (principally, those who simply will never accept the results of the 2016 presidential election) have pointed out--somewhat gratuitously--that Hillary Clinton actually won the popular vote.  (Presumably, there are very few Americans who are unaware of this fact.)

Of course, this is not how we elect our presidents.  And it never has been.

If it were, Donald Trump would have surely campaigned differently.

Anyway, here are the final results:

Nationwide:

Hillary Clinton:  65,844,610 votes

Donald Trump:  62,979,636 votes

Difference:  2,864,974 votes

But now, please, just look at California's totals:

Hillary Clinton:  8,753,788 votes

Donald Trump:  4,483,810 votes

Difference:  4,269,978 votes

Without California, therefore, Donald Trump would have won the popular vote by 1,405,004 votes.

So liberals are actually saying that they wish that California (just by itself) could decide the election.

Never mind that there is a growing movement for California to secede from the United States...

Better news: Democrats outnumber Repub congressmen 38-14, with two Dem Senators.

Better yet, we'd lose Kevin McCarthy to secession.

Good news all around!!!  lol

I'm for it, but I'd like to give the northern and inland counties a chance to remain in the union.  In exchange, the Calexit folks can have the Portland-Seattle coastal area.  Win-win for us (lose-lose for them, but that seems to be what they're asking for)!
My political philosophy:

1) I'm not bothering anybody.
2) It's none of your business.
3) Leave me alone!

Everything's open for discussion...lol. Secession is a fun subject to discuss in general terms. The devil is in the details, not to mention the fact that the issue of secession was settled 151 years ago.

If California secedes, and takes its 55 electoral votes with it, the demRAT party never wins another election.

I heard someone claim that there may have been two to three million illegal votes in California.  That seems high, but I wonder how the high vote totals stack up against the most recent census data.

Virginia was worth fighting for.  California is not.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

"Robert E. Lee was a wonderful man,
and he hated slavery,
He didn't want war, but he said he would fight
If it kept Virginia free.

After it all was over and done, and he rode into the dawn,
Where in the world is another man like him ... now that Lee is gone.

We will see him up in Heaven with a hundred thousand men,
He'll be riding on old Traveler when we see Lee again."

Texas actually had the legal right to secede under the terms of its Annexation Treaty with the U.S.  The only mistake that Texas made was its decision to join the CSA.  I believe legal scholars are saying that the military defeat of the CSA voids the previously explicit right of Texas to secede again.  As a result of losing the War of Northern Aggression (), Texas is now a conquered State.

I don't think an action that occurred before any of us was alive can compel us to live under a specific government.  If the people of Texas, or any other peoples, decide they want to govern themselves, that is their right.

It's their right to try but don't forget what happened to the States that did try.

I agree 100%.  The matter of the Feds' refusal to recognize our rights is another matter, of course.

AZ won't cooperate with your plan.  The wall construction starts immediately, at Yuma, Needles and Blythe.
