Democrats ponder the unthinkable: 60 GOP senate seats in 2018
posted at 2:01 pm on December 20, 2016 by Jazz Shaw

So the Democrats are largely down in the dumps after yesterday’s Electoral College results. Not only did Trump get certified as the next POTUS, but Hillary Clinton actually lost ground in the total EC vote spread. But on the bright side, the worst is over, right? The bandage has been ripped off and the healing can begin. I mean… it can’t actually get any worse than this, can it?

Perhaps our liberal friends shouldn’t pick this week to quit sniffing glue because it’s just possible that it might. The battle for the midterms will be gearing up in earnest as soon as we sober up from the New Years parties and the writing on the wall looks pretty ugly. It may seem unthinkable, but there is a possible path in front of us which could see the Dems winding up with so few seats in the Senate that they couldn’t even muster a filibuster. (Assuming we don’t nuke it next month.) Stuart Rothenberg at the Washington Post describes just such a doomsday scenario for the regional party currently lurking in a handful of coastal cities.

They are being led by "yesterday's people."

Bill and Hillary Clinton nearly 70, Pelosi and Sanders well over 70,  Schumer 66, Warren 67.

Their golden boy Ellison is an avowed muslim.

Obama should be considered responsible for much of their loss of seats.

As the country goes right, the dems are going further left.

This death blow cycle comes around every so often for the Rats. They can thank Obama for leaving them in such a deep hole prior to it.

Will the GOP learn to stomp on their throats??

Realize it's not easy for them with Hollywood, music (I use that term lightly) and 95% of the media complex.  Speaking of the possibility of overturning Obama EOs...ending "Obama phones", etc.. and increasing their numbers in 2018.

The blessing here if any, is that Trump knows how to use Twitter to circumvent an adversarial press/media.

It's the only good thing about the Obama 'legacy.'

It would be nice.

Never in modern history.. post WWll, has the republican/conservative voice been in such a position.

Nay , by the rod... only have democrats/marxist/progressives held such power. That is why our world is fubar.

True, and may well not with Trump either.

Sieg Heil.

It's tragic that Trump's 'conservatives' so eagerly embrace such old ideas like the 'der Lügenpresse'.

And at the same time Trump's 'conservatives' imbibe these tropes, they say that National Socialism is leftist.  The cognitive dissonance is outstanding.

I don't see it.
Each state gets only 2, and there aren't enough Liberals to to have 30 states go democrat.
Not the way they've been acting lately.

I am of the opinion that with three constitutional amendments, the dems can be forced out of power for a LONG time.

1) Enact changes that require states to maintain separate federal voter rolls, that only us citizens can be on those rolls, only those on those roles are allowed to vote in federal elections, and after a presidential election, the federal voter roll must be purged of all voters, requiring re-registration in order to vote.

2) Enact changes that require the state legislatures to be bicameral with an upper house composed of representatives of each county and an equal sized lower house that is apportioned by the number of voters

3) Adopt the congressional district based electoral college for all states.  Whoever wins the majority of votes for congressional district gets to name the elector.  If no majority for a district, revote from the top 3 candidates that received votes within 30 days with the winner being the one with the most votes.  The two state electors will be decided by awarding one elector to the candidate that wins the most districts, and the second going to the candidate that wins the most votes in the state.  If in the event of a tie, the Gov decides which of the two candidates will receive the elector.

That all works for me, @Taxcontrol

The Left, the Dems, and the media will slash and burn in an effort to prevent the GOP making such gains.  Then, they will trot out Michelle to define the New Left.  Count on it.

Is there anything they actually NEED 60 votes for?  Or is that just rules of the Senate?

Dirty Harry had no problem removing the 60 vote limit when it suited him.

Honestly, as long as we have the EC, I don't think it's any of my business how other states choose their electors.
