NY Times calls for end to Electoral College
By Rebecca Savransky - 12/20/16 09:00 AM EST

The New York Times is calling for an end to the Electoral College.

Americans would prefer by overwhelming majorities to elect a president using a popular vote system, the newspaper's editorial board said in a piece published Monday.

"They understand, on a gut level, the basic fairness of awarding the nation’s highest office on the same basis as every other elected office — to the person who gets the most votes," the editorial said.

That's nice. When any one  of these folks can demonstrate they know half of founder knew maybe it will be time to listen.
“The way I see it, every time a man gets up in the morning he starts his life over. Sure, the bills are there to pay, and the job is there to do, but you don't have to stay in a pattern. You can always start over, saddle a fresh horse and take another trail.” ― Louis L'Amour

They'll support it ... until they realize that most people in most states will be effectively disenfranchised thereby.

Do they know this by taking a poll? Is this poll as accurate as the ones taken on Election day?

They are pushing this because they know once they achieve this end - that New York, Boston, Chicago and LA will decide who "wins" a presidency and the rest of "flyover country' becomes totally and completely irrelevant, without any voice in the political process whatsoever.

By design of wannabe tyrants and knowing that the imbeciles that make up their vast constituencies will buy and advocate the nice-sounding argument about the 'popular vote'.

Then it truly will become 5 wolves and a sheep deciding what is for dinner.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

Is this the same NY Times that published an "I'm Sorry" letter for their readers after they blew all their credibility in this election cycle?

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

We have that already.  The States allocate their votes (electors), and whomever gets a majority is elected.  We're the united STATES, not citizens.

Everybody knows the NYT would sing the praises of the electoral college if Hillary had won there and lost the popular vote.  They don't realize how silly they look to the average reader.

The New York Times is calling for an end to the Electoral College.

Might as well call for an end to the rest of the Constitution while they're at it.

Quote from: NY Slimes

Americans would prefer by overwhelming majorities to elect a president using a popular vote system run by Democrats and ripe with corruption where they could control election results for eternity, the newspaper's editorial board said in a piece published Monday.

They learned early on from Uncle Joe - "It is not who votes that counts, it is he who counts the votes."

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

-Ayn Rand-

Heh...nice.  888high58888

If anything the Electoral College needs to be based upon each Representative District getting one vote and the State popular vote represented by the two senatorial slots.
Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning, they want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters.

Anyone remember when they called on the cancellations of mid-term elections? Right before 2014 when the Dems lost big time.

Sorry, but anything printed in the NYT is automatically fake news until proven otherwise, which this hasn't been.
My political philosophy:

1) I'm not bothering anybody.
2) It's none of your business.
3) Leave me alone!
