Part of his problem seems to be what Charlie believes properly is the "right".

I'm guessing he didn't think much of Ted Cruz, who among the candidates best embodied what used to be considered conservative.

Charlie Sykes is an individual. The New York Times is an institution. It doesn't write news articles or opinion pieces.

GOPBR is also an institution, and increasingly over the last year has joined the NYT regarding opinions/positions put forth.

What they did buy into was the argument that this was a “binary choice.” No matter how bad Mr. Trump was, my listeners argued, he could not possibly be as bad as Mrs. Clinton. You simply cannot overstate this as a factor in the final outcome. As our politics have become more polarized, the essential loyalties shift from ideas, to parties, to tribes, to individuals. Nothing else ultimately matters.

That's what the Salem Network has pushed from day one. Pushing the "binary choice", hosts like Mark Davis and Mike Gallagher will be able to deflect criticisms of Trump by saying, "thank God we don't have Hillary as President." Judging by the ratings I've seen for DFW, such views will not hurt their ratings, because they have don't have any ratings. Ok, their last rating was a 0.9, in an area where 12 stations have a 3.0 or higher. WBAP, the station that dumped Davis four years ago, has a 4.1, probably because Rush and Mark Levin are still found on WBAP.

You can avoid reality, but you cannot avoid the consequences of avoiding reality.

Their 'binary choice' analogy just proves how shallow their argument is.  The choice between 'hung by rope till your dead' and cyanide is not much of a choice.
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

So does FR only allowed approved "conservative" articles from approved "conservative" authors to be posted now.  I guess that wouldn't surprise me since they only now allow approved tRump boot lickers to post.  Sounds a lot like DU, which is too bad since there used to be a time that an article could be posted and an intelligent conversation could then occur.   It appears that doesn't happen any more. ****sheep****

The conservative media is broken and the conservative movement deeply compromised.

We have a lot of people to thank for that, starting with Rush Limbaugh, Mike Gallagher, Sean Hannity, Fox News, etc.

There is no one I blame more than "The people" who have betrayed conservatism out of some kind of twisted need for revenge or belief they will have power. In the end they'll pay dearly but fir now they eagerly grease their own cracks and invite Trump and Putin to take turns.
