Dancing In The Streets - Martha and the Vendellas

I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

Otis Redding passed away December 10th, 1967.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otis_Redding

Though he wasn't Motown,
Quote
Aretha Franklin stated, "I heard it on the TV. My sister Caroline and I stopped everything and stayed glued to the TV and radio. It was a tragedy. Shocking."

That ties it in.

And though Phil Spector did the most despicable thing, that 1963 Christmas album from Motown has a lot of good music and that can't be taken away.

The last song on there actually has Spector speaking and thanking the artists. Too bad for his decline. Some great talent.

Winter Wonderland by Darlene Love is another excellent track.

Sam Cooke died on this day, murdered on December 11th 1964.  Again, related.

Sam Cooke songs have been sung by the Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart, Cat Stevens.

What's interesting is "Only Sixteen" was also written by Herb Alpert (TJ Brass) and Lou Adler

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Only_Sixteen

So, since Sam Cooke is called one of the progenitors of Soul, one of the pioneers, I thought I'd add that in.

Dr. Hook, haling from Union City NJ.
