Caracas Named the World’s Most Violent City. Again.
 By Q24N on 6 December 2016

TODAY VENEZUELA – Yet another report has named Caracas, Venezuela the world’s most dangerous city.

The Mexican NGO Citizen’s Council for Public Security and Criminal Justice recently released a list of 50 cities from across the world that are the most dangerous, and Caracas topped the list, with 42 others appearing on the list beside two from the United States and two from Africa.

The list did not feature a single city from Europe, as the number of homicides does not compare with that of cities in Latin America.

The CCSPJP’s investigation revealed that since 2015, Caracas has been the most dangerous, with 120 deaths per every 100,000 residents. Second on the list is San Pedro de Sula, Honduras. Following these were San Salvador, Acapulco, Maturín (Venezuela), Distrito Central, Honduras, Valencia and Palmira, Colombia.

If one reads the rest of the article where the US and indeed, Europe are discussed, one might not feel too smug about all of this info. Of course, our worse cities are still well below what Caracas is.

More than 50 percent of the world population lives in these 50 cities, the report said. One hundred and sixteen years ago only 10 percent of the total population lives in urban areas. The migration from rural to urban centers has increased each year, and is expected to reach 55 percent by 2050, according to the London School of Economics.

Well to be honest, if you are killing zoo animals, race horses and pigeons to eat and stay alive, you probably might not be that safe a place.

From what I can tell, in the mid-90s, they were building an office building, skyscraper in Caracas, "The Tower (Torre) of David" as it is nicknamed, the deal got scrapped well into construction and squatters moved in. It looks like other stories say they booted the squatters out of the building, so good, it must have been dangerous.  Who knows what the status is now?

Still.

At least, Latin America is not dealing with the specter of terrorism straight up at least, the kind in the Middle East. They are almost untouched by it; save possibly some alliances that exist such as between the Shining Path (Sendero Luminoso) Peruvian Communist Guerrilas and Hezbollah. But probably not much at this time.

It doesn't look like everything was bad at that tower, maybe most things. Surely, the dangers outweighed the pluses.
