Did you give Obama credit when he picked winners and losers too?
That's an unfair comparison.
This isn't Solyndra. These are not subsidies or handouts, picking a favored industry or business and then showering them with money in the hopes they one day become viable on their own. That's what Obama did, and he did it with federal tax dollars.
These are tax breaks to a successful, viable company, which means that Carrier will just have to pay a bit less tax on its
profits than it might otherwise. So it's not giving the company money, but rather taking
less from it. Nor does it mean that the people of Indiana must "make up the difference" because absent this move, Indiana would be getting
zero tax payments from Carrier, nor would the now-unemployed Carrier workers be paying any more payroll taxes. This deal actually
saved the State of Indiana and its taxpayers a lot of money.
On top of that, he wasn't tossing them your tax dollars. This money came from a pre-existing tax incentive program from the State of Indiana, which apparently had been offered previously but turned down by Carrier. The difference this time was Trump apparently mentioned that Carrier's parent company, UT, had billions of dollars in federal contracts, and perhaps might like to keep them.
And I'd add that it is a profoundly Democrat, progressive idea to equate a tax cut with a handout. Why so many people on here are making those two things equivalent is a bit of a mystery.
