WH: Obama, Trump have spoken 'handful' of times since election
By Jordan Fabian - 11/28/16 01:53 PM EST

President Obama and President-elect Donald Trump have spoken “a handful” of times since Trump won the election, according to Obama’s top spokesman.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest declined on Monday to provide details of the calls, saying he wants to “protect the confidentiality” of the two leaders.

But Earnest did confirm that Obama and Trump spoke by phone for 45 minutes on Saturday. The spokesman said the president-elect phoned the president, who returned the call.

The call was previously revealed by top Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway.

Obama and Trump have struck up an unusually friendly relationship for two formerly bitter foes.

The president has pledged a smooth transition of power, and he’s spoken with Trump multiple times since their first meeting in the Oval Office on Nov. 10.

While he wouldn’t provide details, Earnest described the conversations as a “consultation” on ensuring a seamless handover of power.
