Report: Falwell Considered for Education Secretary

Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. is under consideration for education secretary by President-elect Donald Trump, the U.K. Independent reported.
Falwell traveled to Trump Tower in New York for a meeting with the president-elect and several of his top advisers Thursday "to discuss what role I might be able to play with regard to education," Falwell told The Washington Post on Monday.
If not the top post, Falwell could be under review for another position in the Department of Education, according to the Independent.
Falwell, who leads the nation's largest Christian university, said he is troubled how Education Department regulators micromanage colleges and universities through financial aid and student loan programs.
"I told them I'd be willing – I have a lot of responsibilities here – but I'd be willing to serve in some capacity that sort of brings education back to some form of sanity," Falwell told the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
Liberty University is a Christian school founded by the late television evangelist and Moral Majority founder Jerry Falwell Sr., and his son was an early backer of Trump, evoking his father's support of Ronald Reagan in saying Christian voters were not electing a Sunday School teacher.
The Independent pointed to Falwell's belief in biblical creationism and his school teaching of the theory alongside evolution, which set off Twitter.
