When I was much younger I used to come by my annual turkey quite by chance. There is a spot on a road I used to travel around Thanksgiving where every evening 10 or 15 wild turkeys would be strolling across the road, obviously trying to see what was on the other side.
Well I'd be cruising down the road and invariably there would be a suicidal turkey that would jump out in front of my pickup and cause me to swerve and unfortunately clip an innocent bystander turkey (for some reason always the biggest) ever so gently on the turkey noggin. Of course I would immediately come to a screeching stop to render aid and assistance.
I'd load the poor fellow into the pickup, put his little head on a turkey pillow and head to the nearest vet. Unfortunately, the creature would always succumb of its injuries before we got there. Feeling true remorse and wanting to make it up to him, I would invite him to our house for Thanksgiving dinner...
