Harry Reid warned Tuesday that Donald Trump's election "has sparked a wave of hate crimes across America," as the outgoing Democratic leader continued his rhetorical assault on what he calls the President-elect's "bullying, aggressive behavior."
Reid reiterated his call for Trump to revoke his appointment of Steve Bannon as White House chief strategist, aligning with most fellow Democrats who have said Bannon is an extremist with disturbing ties to white nationalists. And after entering reports of election-related hate crimes into the Senate record, Reid challenged colleagues to read them.
"I cannot believe anyone in this chamber wants to defend the hateful acts that are being committed in Trump’s name," Reid said. "They lead to one unavoidable conclusion: many of our fellow Americans believe that Trump’s election validates the kind of bullying, aggressive behavior Trump modeled on a daily basis."
