Cruz being on the wrong end of 99-1 votes in the Senate is not really helpful. Cruz as a solidly Conservative back bone of steel vote on the SC would be VERY helpful. Too many GOP picks "evolve" into squishy moderates once they get on the court. We need a solidly conservative anchor man to replace Scalia. Cruz would be that guy.
Yes, I'm sure Cruz would write a lot of scintillating dissents.... which carry no legal weight, of course, but I'm sure you'll feel great about them.
As your "99-1 votes" suggests, however, Cruz is not even a very effective senator. And he has no experience, and therefore no track record, as a judge. He is, however, an ambitious politician, which to my mind suggests he's not judge material in the first place.
Wouldn't you be much more comfortable with an experienced judge whose record of decisions is well-established?
